PING 2020 Hoofer Vs Hoofer Lite

Recommended Posts

Pulling the trigger on a new stand bag this weekend but cannot decide what to go for between the PING 2020 Hoofer Vs Hoofer Lite.

Is the Hoofer worth the extra $ over the Lite for someone who mostly carries and sometimes carts?

I have the same dilemma. I’m leaning on the hoofer for the better drink holder and magnetic rangefinder pocket and only half a pound heavier. The price difference is negligible imo.

I went with the lite and carry all the time. It is great for my needs but if you carry extra rain suits or layers of clothes, it will only hold one comfortably. Really enjoying it and have owned many generations of ping bags.

My biggest issue with the FlexTech Lite was the rangefinder pocket. A couple other companies have similar issue executing that pocket. First, I love the location and how the water bottle sleeve doesn’t interfere. The two issue I had were, 1) the elastic retainer to keep the rangefinder in is a pain. 2) I wish the fabric was stitched to the bag so you can’t accidentally pull the pocket inside out when removing the rangefinder.

Having owned a TM FT Lite and several Hoofers and Hoofer Lites, I would 100% go with the Hoofer Lite. The FT Lite was nice until the fabric inside ball pocket started ripping (within the first year). The build quality of the Hoofers is just way more dependable

Because you walk more than you ride, you should stick with the Hoofer Lite. Yeah I know they say the Hoofer is only half a pound heavier, but because you have more space, you’re going to want to fill it more than a Lite which will cause it to be even heavier.

My issue with the rangefinder pocket is that my Bushnell X7 didn’t fit in it. However, the pocket was PERFECT for my cell phone.

Honestly you can't go wrong either way. IMO they are so similar, Especially since both models now have a cart strap pass-through. Ping really needs to put the Light on a diet to give it the Light name..... 1/2 pound isn't much weight loss to offset some of the nice features of the full Hoofer. Personally I would (and do) game the standard Hoofer. I don't think there is a ton more "space" per say, but the extra pockets give the bag dang near perfect organization. Either way though, Ping bags are super functional and built like tanks.

I went Hoofer Lite as I don't need many pockets. Also tried the TM FlexTech Lite, it's a similar set up but not of the same quality as the PING. TM materials and build noticeably cheaper feeling imo.

I agree with you on the weight and that is really isn’t that much lighter but I also think “Lite” means lighter in features and more minimalist.

Normal Hoofer - carries very light, really don't notice the slight weight over the standard plus if on a cart it has the pass through.

Thanks for everyone’s input.

Went with the Hoofer.

Compared the Hoofer and the Hoofer Lite in the store and the weight difference was so negligible it was an easy decision to go with the one with more features.

With clubs in, it’s noticeably heavier than my old 4Up StaDry. But it’s such a better bag.

Thanks again for the replies, definitely helped me make an informed decision.

I feel the exact same way. It’s not just about weight, it’s also about limiting (in a good way) how much you can load. Very important if you carry often.

I honestly think the Hoofer doesn’t have a ton of capacity (owned many bags with more storage that were smaller); I appreciate the numerous smaller pockets that keep things organized. I’d rather have 3 smaller pockets than one big one with a bunch of stuff in it. Different strokes for different folks though. I think for a “minimalist” bag, the Hoofer Lite is a swing and a miss. Only .5 pounds lighter and less features... It’s a great bag but in my opinion not enough of a difference from the standard Hoofer. The Craz-E should be the Hoofer Lite IMO.

Pulled the trigger on the hoofer lite. Took it out for 5 holes this morning before the rain become the lightning showed up. Club tangle wasn't too bad using my normal 12 club set up and I was able to put a reusable 22 ounce water bottle in the drink pouch without a problem.

Happy at this point with forgoing the larger hoofer. Not much difference in weight but I simply didn't need the room the hoofer offers and with the lite now offering the cart pass it fits my needs. Normally when I carry its a MacKenzie or the Seamus Fescue Project bag, so this will not be used exclusively but stil a nice bag.

Couple more early morning rounds and I'm glad I went with the lite. They both are great bags and depending on what you want the bag to do for you I don't think you can go wrong with either.

I actually prefer the divider system of the lite to the regular hoofer. I am not noticing near as much club tangle as in some of the other recent hoofers that I've tried. Two thumbs up so far.

Tangle shouldn’t be an issue if the bag is standing vertically. Take the club out before you tilt the bag and engage the legs.

Even with legs deployed though this iteration isn't driving me crazy with tangle like past models. I'm actually going to keep this bag after trying them for the last 4 or 5 models and giving them away after a couple of weeks. My buddies and the local junior program loved me.

If I do get a little resistance putting a club back in just a tilt up and in it slides right in. But I've only had to do that twice in probably 5 rounds. Huge improvement in my mind.

OP update: First 18 in the can over the weekend and I absolutely love the Hoofer.

I'm sure the Hoofer Lite is every bit as good, but I'm really glad I went with the standard Hoofer. Carries much lighter than its weight - really well balanced and shoulder straps are very well padded.

The magnetic rangefinder pocket is SUPERB - was disappointed with the soft case which came with my Bushnell XE, but this also kills that problem. This pocket is so handy and easy to use.

Minimal shaft tangle. Happened a couple of times but not often.

The stand is sooooo good.

Love all the different pockets for organising everything, and the zip inside the main pocket so you can reach into the club well in case you drop something down the bag is great The ONLY criticism I can have is it doesn't carry great on one shoulder, such as if you're just using one loop to move a short distance from a green to a tee. On one shoulder the bag balances really upright and there's nowhere comfortable to rest your arm because the grab handle at the top gets in the way.
