Rocket Mortgage Classic - does anyone care?

I am maybe just being blind but I cannot see a thread for discussing this one. Four weeks into golf being back having things gotten so bad that no one is interested in this one? To be fair, it is not the strongest field especially compared to the three weeks which have just proceeded it.

As to the question posed - it would appear not! I'll be watching however.

It's supposed to be 100+ and the wind blowing this weekend. Watch the tournament or a rerun of Law & Order? Not a hard choice.

Firm & fast? Count me in.

I'll also watch for the classic course itself.

I'll be heading down to Myrtle Beach for vacation this weekend so it's just as well because I really don't have interest in this tournament. The only tournaments I watch religiously are the majors and higher profile tournaments like the Players, and WGC events. I'll monitor the leaderboard on Saturday for the run of the mill tour stops and if its a compelling list of names in contention I will tune in on Sunday.

Should be interesting. As stated above, it's going to be hot and humid, so the could should play firm and fast. They are also growing out the rough this year, so it should be a bit more penal and not see scores quite as low as they were last year.

I think back to back tourney at Jack's place probably hurt the field a bit, but I would not call the field without interest. Sure, no Tiger, DJ, or Rory, but still have:

I’ll watch. I always watch when the venue is interesting. I’ve played both courses too many times to count, so I want to see what this tournament looks like on tv.

Hey when A NY Yankee starting pitcher pitches a 1-hit 9 inning shutout wait a few months and YES Network (Yankees owned channel) will replay it and put the word "Classic" in the title of the replay.

Why do they play one hole from the south 18? Is it a flow thing?

I like the looks of the place. I hope they are able to bake it out some and get the ball running so it really shines. I also have no problem with the rough being a bit longer than a typical tour stop to balance the running fairways.

As a Michigan resident I'm glad we have a PGA event back in our state. I miss the old Buick Open, especially because it usually drew a pretty decent field including Tiger a number of times. Got to see him in person win there 3 times. Haven't been able to make it to this one yet though due to scheduling conflicts. Maybe next year.

This tourney will not have a long life, but give credit to Rocket Mortgage for the audacity to bring this event to a long-struggling, rebuilding Detroit area for at least a few years.

Detroit is and has been struggling, but there's a ton of very affluent suburbs doing quite well, and a large population of golfers in Michigan. I hope it stays around for awhile so I can go to it a few times.

Kinda looking forward to that Dechambeau/Reed/Matsuyama grouping. A highly technical player (BDC), A complete feel player (Reed), and Matsuyama falls a little in the middle since his swing looks a little more conventional since he reduced that extreme pause at the top of his backswing. I think they added the one hole from the South Course replace a short, soft hole on the North.

Kurt Kitayama is an American who has played on the European Tour in recent years, winning twice. He's currently ranked #77 in the OWGR.

He won the Monday qualifier to make the field by three shots.

If golf is on tv I can always find a little time to watch, doesn't matter what tournament or who is playing. It's an addiction!

I missed some TV golf last week and opted for MI Rogue Nation. First time seeing it, released in 2015 - Where have I been? Oh yeah, I joined WRX in 2015. The last 5 years have been a blur.

My point - Rebecca Ferguson is worth skipping TV golf.
