Golf Channel saying Bryson DeChamb is super consistent in 2020. 7 Protein shakes a day!

So far for 2020 Golf Channel listed:

T5, 2, 4, T3, T8 and T6. It seems to be working. Daniel Berger has also been pretty consistent too. Bryson DeChambeau PGA TOUR Profile - News, Stats, and Videos Bryson DeChambeau's daily diet (7 protein shakes!) will shock you7 protein shakes! The dude better be careful because he may start looking like Daly or Hal Sutton. Wasn't Hal like one of the best putters ever on the tour? Was he the guy all the current pros went to for putting lessons?

I came up with the same. At the his base metabolic rate probably over 2500 calories a day, plus about 2000 golfing and practicing, plus another 500 lifting I would say he would legitimately need that much to maintain his current weight. It takes a 3000 calorie deficit to burn 1 lb of fat and with being 40 pounds up and my assumption is about 15 lbs of that was muscle he could maintain a deficit of 1500 a week, keep lifting and keep 90% of that muscle gain and be shredded in a year.

I give him about 6 months at this and then when he suddenly balloons to 300lbs, it won't be so good any more.

In my experience as a (happily retired!!) doctor, the only way to put on as much muscle as Dechambeau apparently has is to take Human Growth Hormone. You can weight train as much as you like, but without HGH you will not acquire muscle at the rate he claims, if at all. Many people train very hard but to put on muscle in volume, HGH is necessary.......hasn't the PGA Tour banned this substance?

I agree. But Playing on tour in an ongoing deficit won’t be fun.

And think about it. He gains 45 pound, maybe 15 of it muscle (I’m actually skeptical even that since he said he’s been doing isolation/bodyweight not compound) and what? He’s now going to lose 30 pounds to get shredded?

Why gain all the fat in the first place. By the time he’s in a deficit to lose 30 pounds, he ends up 215. And he may be unpleasantly surprised at how little muscle mass he gained with isolation/body weight training. And it’s tough to maintain all your muscle mass in a deficit. If he got back to his previous body fat level, I bet he’d be like 210. Maybe less.

Why didn’t he just gain a couple of pounds of muscle a month without all the fat? A newbie lifter can do that. But then again, not without compound.

And here he is drinking 7 protein shakes a day to do bodyweight lifts?

BD is rewriting the fitness/diet books.

That said, he did say his goal was to gain a lot of weight and hit it farther!

I think we'd all like to have DJ's build but for some of us not lucky enough to have hit the genetic lottery it ain't gonna happen. That being said, I posted in the other BD thread that I think this is not a good move by him long term. I had (stress had) a build like BD's. I guess luckily it is a frame you can put weight on and it "spread around" and not look terrible. That said I would love to shave off about 30 pounds and get closer to 210 than 240. BD will find as you get older and as you stay at that higher weight it gets harder to get it back off.

He only needs to deficit 1750 calories a week or 250 a day deficit to lose 1/2 lb a week. So drop his last protein shake and I would be surprised if he even noticed. If he keeps lifting he should be able to hold on to a decent percentage of the muscle he has gained.

He's only 26 so as long as he doesn't balloon and actually maintains his current weight I could see him maintaining everything for a long time, though his lack of fiber from any veggie sources is a little troubling.

I said in the traveler's thread (or maybe I dreamed I did) that DJ can get into some positions due to his athleticism that few can. I even think Faldo broke it down with Konica whatever swing vision.

His left wrist at the top and how he keeps his right elbow directly under it is unbelievable. I think he is able to do that by being pretty lean. I tried to get into that position just sitting at my desk and my left bicep and chest don't let it happen. My right shoulder also will not let my right elbow get down into that position. I guess I have the "Fat Jack" flying right elbow.

I do try my best to pull my right elbow down to my right hip and clear my lead hip but I doubt I am anywhere close to the position he is getting in.

The extra 40 + lbs is really building his legs over time. Pick up a 40 lb bag of salt and carry it everywhere all day. Walk as much as a tour player or caddy does. In a year your legs are tree trunks, whether it was salt, muscle or blubber you were carrying, all would strengthen those legs equally. It is darn near impossible for a very fit 200 pounder to have the lean muscle mass of a reasonably active 300 pounder. If the 300 pounder has 85 pounds of fat, they have more muscle than any ripped 200 pounder. It’s math.

6'2" and 174 would be thin for the US. Especially a US male that was a former HS athlete in either (US) football, baseball or basketball. Most HS sports have fairly sophisticated weight programs. I started lifting when I was in seventh grade (and hated it) for basketball and baseball. I would say guys here are built more like BD, JB Holmes and, if I am being real honest, Patrick Reed than DJ or Tommy Fleetwood.

I was getting ready to say Tony Finau seems pretty representative but he is 6'4" 200. That is thin-ish. If he puts on BD weight, dare I say, he would be approaching linebacker size.
