How many Advil, Tylenol, aspirin etc per week

Recommended Posts

For me at the moment it’s a combination of Dihydrocodine, Paracetamol and Naproxen but that’s because I managed to break a rid!

When I am able to golf, I always have ibuprofen and paracetamol in the bag just in case but thankfully, rarely need to take it. Given how quickly I seem to be breaking down that will probably need to change haha.

Currently none. I’m young, but have had minor back surgery had have ddd and osteoarthritis. I just deal with it for now. I’m sure in a decade or so I will change my tune.

Tylenol does not possess an anti inflammatory effect like the Nsaids( Advil and Alleve) and will therefore not be as effective in treating pain and injuries as Advil and Alleve. However NSAIDs increase the possibility for stomach bleeding and kidney issues , which Tylenol does not.

I would worry about protracted , frequent use of the NSAIDs especially .

I use ice after each round and after each practice session to reduce inflammation, but now the thinking is that ice actually inhibits the normal healing process of injuries.

Usually average about 12 a week, all golf related. And yes it sux getting old even though I'm in good shape. I'll play 27 holes after work on Thursday ( take 4 afterwards ) and we'll play 36 each Saturday and Sunday, sometimes 45 if the course is pretty open. At some point each day mid-day I'll take 4 as well.

Usually 3 ibuprofen (600 mg) before bed after playing golf on that day. If I played 36 I might do 3 + 3 starting the first dose around the evening meal then the 2nd dose before bed. If playing fairly often and riding I may not take any. If I walk I always take 3 before bed. So maybe 9 - 15 for average golf week vs. tournament week.

none

stretching and/or yoga routinely, physical therapy on injuries, warmup before rounds, and a swing that internalizes less stress on the body

If golf is causing that much pain, I would try some alternative approaches at least.

It's such a catch 22. This is why I've gone back to more Tylenol. Pain relief without inhibiting natural healing processes.

Luckily I don't drink, so I'm less worried about liver interaction.

Too many years of Advil to feel comfortable taking it more than occasionally anymore.

I actually took aspirin last night for the first time in eons and it worked great and didn't kill my stomach, which was full.

I stick with Ibuprofen because of the anti inflammatory feature versus Tylenol. It don’t matter what people say, your kidneys will pay the price. Less is more in this regard. If you don’t golf take a break from it both to give you kidneys a break and to keep your tolerance low and have a better affect.

If y'all are that worried about your kidneys and nsaids use voltaren gel on superficial joints and areas.

Absorption systemically is less than 10% with little effect on your stomach.

Best thing is stretching before and actually after. Ice is a plus as previously mentioned. So many people finish up their round and sit for an hour haha

I take one Aleve a day, sometimes two on the weekend when I'm playing a lot. The only thing that works for my aches and pains. Make sure I drink lots of fluids.

Years ago I had a doctor that prescribed me Bextra, it is a Cox 2 inhibitor like Celebrex, but it got taken off the market, but man that was a miracle drug for me, no joint pain at all. It used to call it a weight loss drug because I could exercise all day if I wanted and go right back at it the next day.

800mg Motrin is one of only two medications I take. I take it before playing golf or if I'm going to do something strenuous like stacking hay. My whole life I never took any prescription medications and only the occasional allergy relief OTC but then a weird thing happened - I got old.

600 mg a day of ibuprofen on the days we play golf, so probably five days a week. In the last few years I've gotten a tiny bit of arthritis in the pinky, ring and middle finger of my right hand, which really needs to e medicated before I can apply a consistent grip pressure throughout the swing. My new pre-golf routine involves CBD cream and three Advil before the round. Never thought I'd consider 57 old! LOL

I occasionally use voltaren gel because of less stomach absorption ... It too has some adverse side effects given its “black box” status in the past . It’s suggested use involves joints near the surface, like the wrists and ankles .It does not seem to be effective on joints like the shoulders, which are covered by a thick layer of muscle.

NSAIDS make your blood pressure go up and are terrible for your liver. Be careful what you put in your body

NSAIDS undergo negligible liver metabolism. Long term use is bad for your kidneys.

I‘m shocked at these responses! Trying to not sound condescending here, but I was brought up thinking that pain meds are a last resort and must be taken only over a short time period. Is this an American thing?

None of my buddies take any regularly. I use Voltaren gel if I have acute pain in a joint or so. Ibuprofen for a strong headache or if I have flu symptoms, but not for more than 3 days.

I need to start stretching or doing some yoga as I have some pain in the morning for sure. But the thought of popping pain pills with regularity just sounds...wrong to me. Sorry, but that’s what seems to be the concensus here!

I have taken about 6 Alleve and used about 3/4 tube(100g) of Voltaren during the last 12 months,. In addition I do yoga and dynamic stretching every day and try to do a different workout every day. I have a portable ultrasound and tens unit and have taken various nutritional supplements such as turmeric .Currently I am taking CBD oil, but I have yet to determine if it is a waste of money.

I have a torn TFC in my wrist , shoulder tendonisis and some ankle instability.I have had PT for each of these injuries during the last 2 years.

I am lucky that these injuries are not debilitating and bother me relatively little if I rest and avoid certain aggravating activities like golf,so I do NOT pretend that My injuries are in the serious category.

But I have friends with arthritis who can hardly use their hands without taking some drugs, other friends with chronic back problems who are in constant pain and others who are afraid of losing function if they have shoulder surgery.

No one wants to take these drugs because of the known side effects and the American diet probable exacerbates any inflammatory response , but what should those with chronic pain do?

I
