How does putter weight and grip affect putts?

Just an observation I had with my current putters which I want to verify with you guys.

I have 2 different putters both in Anser style.

Bettinardi Queen Bee 5 with Jumbo Grip (Head weight 362g)Bettinardi BB1 with Standard Grip (Head weight 350g)Observation

I seem to miss more right with jumbo (thicker) gripI seem to have more distance control issues with heavier head (usually too long)Uphill putts are easier with heavier putterHeavier putter seems to work better on faster greensAre my observations correct? Also what will happen if I were to regrip my heavy putter to a thinner, standard sized grip?

Grip diameter & grip weight are independent. Maybe look for a heavier & smaller diameter grip to try (might counterbalance your headweight a bit). Most grip companies publish their grip weight.

There are not really any “correct observations” when it comes to preferred swing weight & prefers total weight. I think most people agree with you that thicker grips tend to delay face rotation (though some studies claim thicker diameter grips result in pulls, from rotation overcompensation). Face material & headweight definitely change distance control. You just gotta find the combo that works for you. You’d probably hate the putters I love.....and vice versa!

I have found that weight/balance to be more important to me. I have used a lot of putters, but my most successful has been a 350 gram head with a superstroke and 50 gam counter weight. I prefer the pistol GT tour shape, but I am trying out a small flatso - I forget the actual size. I also learned to not fight my natural stroke.. That said, I am no master putter-er.
