Who's playing with an artificial hip? Left hip for right handed golfer

Who's playing with an artificial hip? Left hip for right handed golfer? My hip needs to be done eventually. It's really starting to affect my play. Just wondering how others who have had their left (or lead) hip done on getting on. Seems having the back hip done wouldn't be a problem, but a little more concerned about the left.

i think it’s the lead hip is the easier hip replacement for golfers. Using Tom Watson as the example. The back hip is where you push through for power.

My own experience bears this out as well. I had the back hip done first , my left being a lefty. Had to learn to get off that hip and it took a year to teach myself again that feel. That was 11 years ago and had to get the hip ball redone again due to that part being titanium 2 years ago. The lead hip was replaced last year as well and it was easier on my swing. Came right back after rehab. Never missed a beat.

Add this: Age and shape have a lot to do with recovery. Do the rehab.

I have had both hips replaced 2 X (3 X if you count the temporary hips)

Left was first and my game improved after replacement (no pain)

Right was a more of a problem because I found I couldn't transfer weight properly.

As the previous poster states pre surgery prep and post surgery rehab are important.

Had hip replacement 14 months ago. Didn’t swing a club till this past April. I’m left handed. Had right hip done. 3 weeks after surgery, It dislocated! Dr. Immediately took me off rehab. It’s been a long road back. Game has struggled. Game coming back slowly. Scared at first to turn. Still bothers me, don’t think it’s ever gonna be right. Minus dislocation! I think it would have been fine.

Interesting. I'd think the front hip takes more stress, much like the front knee. I'm trying to wait a year and a half for Medicare, but we'll see.

I can only say what I went thru. Tom Watson almost won the British Open at 59 with his left hip replaced. Since he’s had the other replaced.

How old were you guys when you had it done? I'm 63.

Had my left (lead) hip replaced 15 months ago. I’m 63. Started playing 3 months after surgery. Developed some pain after a couple of weeks, consulted the doctor and it was bursitis. No damage to replacement. After a couple of weeks the pain went away and I have had zero problems since. Consider the surgery a complete success.

Also, agree with above. Do the rehab. And presurgery exercises.
