Greatest video I have ever seen on Early extension

Spot on Bryson! I've watched this almost daily at one time or another since it came out - just a terrific presentation. Finally can put away the butt-on-the-chair drill!

I saw this same video and tried his tips, but I still early extend a bit. Not as bad though. It could perhaps be due to overswinging.

I had trouble fully understanding the feel/look of this.

Very cool. That is exactly what I do. I have early hip extension and my misses are a straight block or a little flippy draw

for me the setup up is very important. I would get set back on my heals like the video. I try to feel very stacked on my balls of my feet w/ slight weight towards the toes at setup. then on backswing I am swinging around the center of my backswing "feeling" getting deep as possible with my trail hip then deep w/ my lead hip. but the feel is really about rotating around the center of my pelvis not each hip. important to not this move should be paired with a shallowing feeling of the shaft too as most people are using the EE to shallow the shaft.

My current EE move is almost identical to the AM in this video. My EE starts almost from takeaway and then gets worse, until the culminating "goat hump' at impact.

Conceptually I understand the issue as shown on the video, but I'm not sure how to put it into practice. The main set up difference seems to be to bend at the ankles more towards the ball so that the center of the pelvis is in front of the ankles. Correct? I can feel that. But what else do you need to do? Visualising/feeling swinging around the center of my pelvis...that does not make sense to me because that is what I thought I was doing, but I'm clearly not. So does anyone have any other feels or moves that facilitates the proper pelvis movement? Thanks.

I've seen all of those videos (AMG, Cogorno, Monte's Zipper Away) drill, and for some reason I just could not get them to work for me. What did it for me was seeing Tiger's ultra-exaggeration hip back move. For me I had to feel as if I got my hip back about 4 feet before it clicked. Now once I was able to get the feeling working, all of those videos started making more sense, and I was able to incorporate them a lot more, especially AMG and rotating around the right hip.

I've seen similar videos from amg in the past and they are onto something with this and helping am's not EE. The only thing is with your right hip getting so much deeper than it's use to you will feel really far from the ball and miss towards the toe and thin so something to look out for, also make sure your head isn't moving way back too.

Tried this at the range today and wow! felt really good.

hope this helps everyone! and thank you for posting the other videos here very good also. I love the one with Malaska. For me the setup has really been great so far. i was def sitting back at setup. I feel much more ready with the ankle bend and more centered pelvis over balls of the feet.

Thanks for posting the AMG video OP. Tried it at the range today and made a big difference in shot quality. I had previously thought my setup was good but now realize I had too much weight over my heels. It really was a big help. Hope it holds up over time.

This Chris Ryan video combined with the AMG video covered all the bases for me. Before these videos I had a ballerina move (trail knee moving towards ball) that required a tutu for proper execution.

The setup on the AMG video is what shocked me. The ankle bend and shins forward and hips over ankles. My hips were way behind ankles are address

It was actually mind blowing when I took his advice, closed my eyes, and tried to pivot around the center of my waist and not my right hip. Such a different feeling and concept. When I tried to rehearse my original swing, I felt like I was swaying so much.

great explanation. Seems so easy but it goes to show some times the easiest fix is the best. I was just like “John” in the vid. Trying to move my right hip away from the target line without thinking about what that was doing to the center of the hips. When I tried pivoting around the center of the hips I could see / feel the difference. Good tip and thanks OP for the vid.

same @sbjinx I was same as john about my thoughts and feels. just shot my best nine of the season! Front 9 with an eagle and a 34 two under at my home course!! (I'm a 2.4 cap, but rarely go under par). :)

I agree this is the correct movement and am not disputing it...however I just want to point out to others who tend to overdo moves like I do — I highly recommend video as you’re trying this out.

Last spring I was working on this move and didn’t take my own advice. Before I knew it, I had developed a nasty reverse pivot. The focus on bringing the right hip back caused me to sway left and get pressure left, then I’d be back legging my shots on the way down. Terrible situation haha.

Likewise I had the same feeling.

It makes sense - I struggle with getting enough depth in turn, in part because my hips are already quite deep at setup, meaning they don't have freedom to move as much in the backswing. By setting up more over the toes the hips have space to move backwards in the backswing

I just have a question for those who have tried this... By setting up over the toes, do you still feel that you have enough pressure in your right heel in the backswing. My issue is that I sometimes have to much pressure in the trail foot toes (I'm a lefty so it actually is my left toes) in the backswing?

Don't need to get pressure back into heel during backswing - and definitely don't want pressure out to toes at setup - balls of feet.

this has a great drill using a piece of a pool noodle.

lefty here. yes I feel like by setting up more on the balls/toes w/ shins bent I can really feel the transition into my back heal on the backswing. then i try to feel that i leave my trail cheek there and them pull my front cheek back on the downswing. someone above said u can over do this but i disagree. I don't think u can get too deep. I have never seen a bad swing that's super deep. look at johnny miller, he's the most exaggerated i have seen of this motion and was literally considered greatest iron player second prob to TW/Hogan/Knusdson.
