ALDILA RIPX Shaft

J13

Recommended Posts

Figured I'd start a thread to discuss this shaft and so it doesn't hijack other threads.

ALDILA RIPX from my understanding is built with the original Alpha (red eyes) in mind but more stable and more feel (kick). Being a big fan of the original RIP i wanted to give this a spin and i'm glad i did. I'm seeing spin around 2000rpms with driver and very anti left. In the 3wood i have the 95X which is perfect for 42" length. I"m also probably going to grab another 95X for 5 wood.

Shafts I've hit are Tensei Pro orange, Pro White, Project X Green Hulk, Ventus Blue, the list goes on. Have to say the RIPX might be better than them all which i know is saying a lot.

Feel : For such a low spin shaft it's surprising how much kick it has

Spin : LOW

Launch : LOW

Dispersion : Tight

BallSpeed : On par with Pro white, little less than pro orange for obvious reasons with CB

65TX is too light for me. The 75TX at 44.5" has been extremely tight in dispersion. What i find interesting is you can go as hard as you want and it still doesn't go left. It reminds me of the HULK in numbers but feel is much smoother with an active kick which HULK didn't have for me. HULK kinda felt lifeless if that makes sense.

What do you have the 85TX in ? I would do 85TX but i like my fairway wood at the old school length of 42-42.25" and most 80g shafts start to get in the mid 70's by that length. 95TX is perfect and i'm really happy they are offering it. Getting harder to find .335 tip 90g shafts which IMO is a disservice to golfers.

I'm currently gaming the 75TX in my G400 driver and 95TX in my G400 5 wood. I agree with many of the things that @J13 mentioned. There is definitely some kick and good feel to this shaft but it still remains low spin and delivers tight results. Huge fan of the 95TX in the 5 wood. I have my 5wood dialed down to 16.5 and playing 42". Like you said @J13 , it's the perfect weight for playing a shorter fairway wood. Just a great shaft and looks incredible, too. I'm looking to test out a TPW or Ventus Black against this but going to be a tough one to beat.

i hear more and more people playing this shaft. I know toll bro’s put up some numbers on it and shows how great it is in the spin department.

Blev that sounds like a great setup

Great to hear others feedback. The 95TX is amazing and i'm just thankful we have some heavier options in .335 tip. The industry has scared people away from "heavy" graphite shafts when in reality 95g is still light compared to the standard steel of years ago. It really drives me nuts (especially as someone who builds clubs for people) that they have brainwashed people into thinking 50-60g shafts are standard for drivers and even now putting 60g shafts in fairway woods. Dispersion is typically awful but they get that 1 ball that travels a long way and think it's a "cannon".

Been wanting to give this a try enjoyed red eye rip in Adams 9064ls had the my OG hazrdus yellow 75 6.5 and now have the even flow black now in 75 6.5 mis the stability of the hazrduz in the but but enjoy the feel of the evenly through impact. don't get a sense I have to work at it to hold on . I like to hear the RIPX is a maybe good blend of both those worlds. Going to give it a try soon in driver and possibly go to it in my new 3 wood I have ordered got stock option cobra SZ 3 wish smoke yellow 75 6.6 after I won a prize at my club. Got it to put together a long time 3 wood.

Yeah i love the original RIP Alpha profile and this is definitely an upgrade. Reminds me a lot of the Tensei Pro White except feels more solid but active (hard to describe). I was look around for info before buying the RIPX and saw there was very little user feedback so I figured no better time than now to start a thread so people have some info.

If you are looking to try them talk to Tollbros or obviously Ebay is always there. Actually just checked ebay and there are a few but not many.

If the new tensei 2.0 doesn't work out, i'll be buyin a 75tx to put in my driver. the 65tx is good...but i think my dispersion/feel would be better with the 75tx

Look forward to hearing the feedback on that @gioguy21 Heard good things about the new AV Raw stuff in TX flex. The 2.0 sounds like a slightly lower torque version which is odd as the TX is supposed to be "tour X". Not very "Tour" if they need a 2.0 for tour players haha.

Gave my RIPX to a buddy to try tonight in our league. He’s a + hcp and former mini tour player for reference. He absolutely loved it and wanted to buy mine but I told him no dice. His feedback was

Very anti left and much more runout then his setup with handcrafted project x hzrdus black. He said feel is superb and much more active than what he had. Overall he wants to borrow it for a tourney this weekend and see how it goes but he’s in love haha.

So my buddy played with my RIPX today for a practice round and i'm not sure i'm getting it back. He has my 75TX in his Cobra SZ (normal shaft is HZRDUS Black HC) and said he hasn't hit a consistent straight ball like that in years. He typically plays a high draw and this actually straightened out his flight and according to him allowed him to go harder at the ball without worrying about the dreaded draw into a hook. He's a former mini tour player with about the same speed as me so he's always someone I like to get feedback from as well. Anyway I might need a new RIPX 75g lol

You all have me intrigued about this shaft. I’m thinking about it for my 3 wood shaft as the synergy proto(2019 tour green) isn’t working for me in that head as it is in my 5wd head. How are you guys tipping these in comparison to your other shafts? I have a kk dc 70tx in my driver tipped 1 inch

Funny enough I had a KK DC 70TX (tipped 1") and really liked it but it ended up losing out to the Pro Orange at the time. The RIPX compared to the KK DC is less left, slightly lower in spin, and has more kick to it. I'd recommend a RIPX 75TX tipped 1/2" to start. It's a stout tip so you don't have to go crazy. The 5wood is a no brainer, 95TX all day.

I have a 65TX tipped 1” in a SIM. My gamer is an M3 440 with TZ6. Only hit a few balls before a round with the SIM. Initial impressions, ball leaves in a hurry and does not go left. Shaft definitely feels lively. Before TZ6 I played a Pro White for 2 seasons. The RIPX definitely has more life to it than the Pro White. It’ll be interesting to see how the shaft holds up to speed, but the few balls I hit were pretty positive all around.

Agree with all of that. It's like a more active pro white but lower spin for me. Great description. I'm actually going to give 85TX a try in a short and heavy setup. why not lol

This is my shaft weight setup. I have the 75TX tipped 1" playing 44.5" in the driver. 95TX tipped 1.75" playing 42" in my 5 wood. The 95TX was already tipped 1.5" when I got it but previously had a Callaway adapter on it. I ended up tipping it an extra .25" so I didn't have to see the previous adapter prep on the shaft. Kind of lucked out as I think it plays perfectly in that 5 wood setup. I think I read somewhere that the heavier model profiles do promote more launch. Some confirmation would be nice.

D*%^ wrx ?. I love the site and I love my KK DC 70TX but sometimes I feel like with such new tech in the shaft game sometimes you have to keep up and this profile sounds solid. I’ve been trying to find that shaft fit for my 3 wood and I haven’t found that unicorn shaft since I had my diamana blue board 103x that broke.
