Titleist Making a Habit Of Leading the Club Count on Tour Each Week

Carolina Golfer 2

Recommended Posts

This question came up in another thread and I did't want to derail that thread, so I started this one. Maybe it'll lead to some discussion/debate. Basically it was regarding how often Titleist leads in just about every club category each week. The perception is that Titleist only leads in the ball count each week and not so much clubs. But take a look at these going back to the beginning of this year. 2019 was pretty much the same thing.
Here you go @J13
I'm copying and pasting from the information I got from Titleist's weekly report for accuracy, so it's not in a nice neat excel sheet.3M OpenCOUNTING ON TITLEIST EQUIPMENT: Titleist led the golf ball count with 123 (79%) in play, over ELEVEN (11) more times the nearest competitor with 11 … Titleist was also the field favorite in drivers (40/26%), hybrids (29/40%), utilities (37/49%), irons (52/33%), wedges (246/56%) and putters (54/35%).The Memorial COUNTING ON TITLEIST EQUIPMENT: In addition to leading the golf ball count with 108 (69%) in play, more than five times the nearest competitor (19), Titleist was also the field favorite in drivers (39/25%), hybrids (23/37%), utilities (35/39%), irons (47/30%) and wedges (230/51%).Rocket Mortgage
>Titleist topped the golf ball count with 114 players (73%), more than seven times the nearest competitor (15).
> Titleist was also the field favorite in drivers (39/25%), hybrids (22/35%), utility irons (45/49%), irons (52/33%) and wedges (226/51%).
> Titleist had more than twice as many iron sets (52) than the nearest competitor (24), with the Titleist T100 (20) and 620 MB (16) being the most played models.
> There were 226 Vokey Design wedges in play, more than three times the next most played brand (67).Travelers ChampionshipPGA TOUR: After sweeping the player count across every major equipment category at 13 PGA TOUR events in 2019, and again in three consecutive tournaments earlier this season (Waste Management Open, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Waste Management Open), Titleist accomplished the feat again at the Travelers Championship. From golf balls (116/74%), to drivers (43/28%), fairway metals (T1/67/31%) and hybrids (23/38%), to utilities (46/51%), iron sets (45/29%), wedges (244/56%) and putters (50/32%) - Titleist was the field favorite across every category. In fact, more than half of all golf balls, utility irons and wedges in play were Titleist branded. No other brand has ever swept every major equipment category in PGA TOUR history.RBC Heritage
>Titleist topped the golf ball count with 111 (71%) players in the field of 156, more than six times the nearest competitor with 17 … Titleist was also the field favorite in drivers (45), hybrids (25), utility irons (36), irons (49) and wedges (229).Charles Schwab
>Titleist topped the golf ball count with 104 (67%) players in the field of 156, nearly five times the nearest competitor with 21 … Titleist was also the field favorite in drivers (39), hybrids (19), utility irons (35), irons (44) and wedges (216).WGC Mexico
Hovland and Teater were two of 118 Titleist golf ball players in the field of 144 (82%) - that’s 110 players more than the nearest competitor with 8 … Titleist was also the top choice from tee-to-green, with more players trusting Titleist drivers, fairway, hybrids, utilities, iron sets and wedges than any other brand. The Genesis
After sweeping every major equipment count at 13 PGA TOUR events in 2019, Titleist secured a third straight in 2020 at this week’s The Genesis Invitational … From golf balls, to drivers, fairways and hybrids, to utilities, iron sets, wedges and putters – Titleist has now been the top choice of more players across every category at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Genesis Invitational.

Think it shows that even though its under the radar they make the most consistent performing equipment out there...and when it comes down to it that is all that matters.

Never owned anything Titleist but have been eyeing the TS or 818 hybrids. Going to make a change in the bag. Looks like now is as good a time as any.

No doubt. They put most of their marketing $$$. Behind the ball.

And the clubs once someone gets them in their hands and gets fit, they are as good from top of the bag to the bottom as any company.

The days of "I'm not good enough to play Titleist" by the average golfer are over as well. THe T300 is one of if not best GI iron out there. In looks and performance.

I’ve been a Titleist fan for years and I was shocked by that dominance across the board.

Titleist Tour Players | What Tour Players Use Titleist?

They have 21 staffers, of which about ~11 are major names. Anything beyond that 21 across various tours, have their stuff in the bag by their own choice.

My issue is there doesn’t seem to be anyone not being payed by them playing there stuff. They undoubtedly have more money to throw at guys so they do it. Ping seems to have the most guys not under contract playing their stuff.

I wouldn't say anyone. It's tough to get an exact read, as Titleist won't/can't provide the names of non contract players and unless you have access to the Darrell Survey you're likely guessing for the most part, until you see one or two pop up on TV with their gear that isn't listed.

You don't have to look any further than Brendan Todd this weekend, plays the irons and Vokey Wedges. He's just one example of many.

Well true, it’s hard to tell and I will say people def play their wedges while under contract with other manufacturers but it “seems” most the guys playing them are 14 club contract guys and besides the wedges I’ll say there doesn’t seem to be a lot of free agents playing their drivers or irons. To me anyhow.

It starts with college golf and Titleist has always been pretty accommodating to the amateurs. Once you start and are comfortable with their equipment, the only thing that's going to change your mind in the future is a big fat contract from one of the other manufacturers. I don't put much into it. There are several companies making top notch equipment and balls. Titleist is the current king but their equipment is no better than the others. They've just been better at advertising and grooming the up and comers.

If I had to choose one brand of which to play all 14 clubs, it would definitely be Titleist. At the moment, I’m only playing Vokey wedges and an old school Newport 2. I could easily switch to the TS2/3 line and throw a set of T100’s in the bag though.

I think looking at the tour equipment numbers is meaningless in many ways.

Show me how much they pay for wedges, balls, putters, etc in play compared to the other manufacturers.

Look at where the Nike free agents went. (Casey, Brooks, Golf Jesus, etc)... Did any of them pick up any Titleist clubs?

Haha. Here are my thoughts around titleist. The sponsor a lot of young guys that have little to no status. Many of these guys they pay almost nothing but give them access to equipment and a big enough paycheck to stay in the game.

so many of these guys are not your Patrick Reed, Brooks Koepka free agent types. It is the exact opposite. These guys are young dumb and broke so to speak.

The ball numbers are the ball numbers. Titleist makes a heck of a ball.

Casey plays Vokey wedges and a Cameron putter. Brooks plays Vokey wedges and a Cameron putter. Koepka was a Titleist staff player before signing with Nike.

Fleetwood plays a couple of Vokey wedges. All of them play the Pro-V1 or V1X. Casey and Fleetwood have a ball contract with Titleist. Koepka does not. Titleist is not paying any of them for the Titleist clubs they use. Brooks is not being paid to play the V1X.

If you look at the WITB that are posted here by Greg (pga43) many players on tour that have contracts with other OEM's play Vokey wedges and Cameron putters. Many for no endorsement money.
