Upgrading basic driver shaft?

I have a TaylorMade Burner driver, 2009. It has the stock regular REAX Superfast 49g shaft which I cut down the tip to 45” a few years ago.

I’m no expert as you will read from this, but like finding enjoyment playing and tinkering with clubs now and again.

I am much happier playing it this length rather than the original 46.25” (I think). I’m more consistent with it, sometimes it goes further, but it’s definitely straighter. The more I play it though it feels very light and wispy now.

My question is would I benefit/enjoy from replacing it with an aftermarket shaft? Still regular(ish) but heavier eg 60 or 70g, than the stock 50g. I added some yarn to the head to add weight after cutting but not sure it’s enough.

I know this is a much asked question and suppose I should really get fitted to know for sure. But I’m happy to have a go and experiment.

Just trying to find out if I would find that a “well built” aftermarket shaft would be more satisfying to play with? Or is it a pointless exercise?

If you go for a fitting anywhere, they will only have SIM or maybe last season’s M5/M6 heads. Even if you found a good shaft from the fitting, expecting it to give you similar numbers in your ‘09 Burner will be a gamble. Much harder to swap shafts in a glued head if you wanted to tinker.

Lol. When Mike was designing it, he asked for input. As a huge bourbon homer, I suggested if doing a bourbon HC, it needed to be barrel themed. 
And, well that’s what we got. I was less than excited about it. 

The issue for me would be that for the price of getting a new shaft that is worth all the effort of pulling and replying you could get a driver that is a significant upgrade.  Ts2’s with very little use are going for less than $200.  I’d get one of those or a Mizuno st190 and see how you like the shaft you get in that.  Then you will have something that is easier to experiment some shafts on if you don’t like what it comes with.  If you went the ts2 route with the light kuro kage shaft that is often available then I would go stiff over regular.  I went with regular and it needed replacement...
