lasik and my golf guru

Recommended Posts

how lasik has messed thing up
loved my guru, until lasik. I'm 55 yrs old. Got lasik, but still need reading glasses.. Going from my sunglasses to reading glasses on the course was just too much trouble, so i only use the middle of the green number now..All that other good stuff is too small to see! Are there any units out there with really big fonts?

standard lasik only corrects your distance vision. If you currently wear bi-focals or need readers, your near-distance vision remains un-corrected after lasik, meaning you have to use readers for up close reading. Unless you opt for what they call mono-vision. That's where they correct one eye for distance and the other eye for reading. I chickened out on that option, tho i hear it really works fine..Insurance did not pay for it, but i was able to use pre-tax dollars from my companies flex-plan.

The lasik was good..just this specific application with my gps is a problem. What i really need is sunglasses with a small reader component at the bottom of the lense, but i doubt anything like that exists.

I'm past my first year after having LASIK. I have to say it was the best thing that I ever did for myself. I would definitely do it over. Woolfson Eye Institute performed my surgery and I highly, highly recommend them. Now, since I'll be 40 this year I have not had to use reading glasses but my eye doctor says that it is inevitable. I know that I see much farther than all of my playing competitors. They always ask me, "where did my ball go?".

My insurance did not pay for any of it. Best $4,000 I have spent though.

I bought a Sonocaddie from Costco and had the same problem reading it. Since it was Costco I returned it and bought a Golflogix. That one I can read on the course without my reading glasses. Has less features that many people like (not programable) but the tradeoff is it is fully automatic on the course and is no distraction.

I had Lazik almost 10 years ago and agree, it's the best money I've ever spent. My eyes have not changed a bit since then, and the freedom from the contacts I'd worn for over 30 years is great.

Here's something that you might want to research a little more, the stick on "Cheaters" for your sunglasses. I'm sure there are many types and prices available, but this will give you some ideas.

I tried to get an Ebay link added, but it doesn't seem to want to work for me. Do a Google search for "Stick On Bi Focals". These can be had on Ebay for cheap.

I have a set on my current pair of sunglasses, and also put some on my wife's sunglasses. I do have mine cut down so they are not visible to me while driving. I suppose I took about 1/3 off of the bottom. I kept experimenting by taking a little off at a time. You can stick them on then use a pen to scribe a line to match the bottom contour of your glasses. My regular reading glasses are 1.5's, and so are the stick ons.

Golflogix unit has relatively large fonts. All the numbers are very easy to read.
