nooooo! the Bridgestone rep told me the new bridgestone ball is the best. :)

It will be interesting to see what Titleist is going to do with their new ball regarding the ProV patent/legal costs.. will this be the replacement for the ProV line? Thanks

We are currently hitting the the protos on our range.. The covers seem to be a bit better, but the ball feels about the same. They do feel just a little better, but I haven't really been able to tell a difference in performance. However, that might just be because I was on bent grass greens all summer and now I'm on bermuda.

With all that said, I don't know exactly what your rep was talking about.

It seems to me that they make minor changes periodically and just work it into production without making it a "new release." I could be wrong about that, but that is just what I have always thought.

Also, they often just send us the retail version for research purposes. We aren't always hitting protos, but the ones we have now seem to be tweaked from the retail version.

Again, with all that said, I have no idea what his rep is talking about. He could have just been referring to the current retail balls. As far as I know Titleist isn't gearing up for a "new release."

Anyone have infos about those? My Titleist rep came and told me that they were amazing apparently alot better then the any other balls on the market.

When are they coming out, and at what price will they go for? Thanks

No new ball until March of 2009- they'll be introduced to the industry right after the first of the year. No retails have been released as of yet.

The Gamer isn't a ProV, but it is a great ball. Soft (not mushy). Some say it spins real well -- I find that the ball stops very close to the ballmark on the green. It doesn't spin off the greens and all that. If they put a different logo on the Top-Flite Gamer, a lot of folks would be bragging on them. Oh -- one negative: They aren't the most durable ball on the market, but I can easily get a round out of one if I can stay out of the trees or on cart paths. I bought a dozen last week for $16.95. It's incredible. But let's not get silly. It's not a ProV. It's not an iX. It's not a B330. It's nipping at their heels, however.

The guy at Golf Galaxy told me the Top Flite D2 were as good as Pro V's at a fraction of the cost. He has two cappers coming in buying them 3 at a time. True?

 :birthday:

there is NO F-ING way a TopFlite ball is close to a Pro V1

I shared your scepticism until I actually tried the Top Flight D2 "feel" ball.

It is amazing; it is longer than the Pro V for me; it putts well and you get 15 of them for less than $20.

Make sure you try it before you slam it. It has absolutely nothing in common with the top flight [rock hard] golf balls of even a few years ago.

The Pro V is a great ball and it performs well for very good golfers; I suspect the D2 is a better ball for the mid-cap and most recreational golfers lacking the higher swing speeds to benefit from the ProV

Given the patent and legal problems, it is possible the new Pro V1 won't be as good as the current Pro V1?

If they can't use the patents, can the new ball have all/the best ball technology Titleist has to offer?

Perhaps we should start hoarding the current pro v1?

I have played the gamer and they do spin well, Durability is terrible and you don't get the spin of the short pitch shots that you get with the pro v or other premium ball. A 9 iron shot into the green will stop and spin back a little but agian nothing compared to having the ability to hit a premium ball to the back of the green and spin it back 12 feet to the hole.

My titleist rep actually told me they won all the copy right hub bub. So I would expect the new pro-v to be just as good if not better. Not sure what they can do to improve it, but who knows maybe this one will float or something.

That's an interesting quote considering people have posted newspaper articles stating Bridgestone won a round of law suites that ended up getting Bridgestone some payback for Titleist balls sold this year. I was also under the impression that once these balls were sold, Titleist was forced to drop certain technologies that Bridgestone claimed to be their own.

That's far from an exact quote, but it was quite a while ago. I think I saw it here on these forums first... possibly as far back as February or so?

I could be wrong but I think Acushnet/Titleist were going to appeal the Feb. (or sometime early '08) decision. I don't think the results of the appeal are in yet, but from what I gathered it sounded like Acushnet/Titleist were sitting pretty good for the appeal.

So I have heard the results aren't in and they aren't necessarily going Bridgestone's direction.
