Coloniale is a nice course that is well kept. The only thing I don't like about the course is that you have to stay on the cart path with your cart. You have to be careful and make the right club selection or end up hoofing it back to the cart and rushing yourself. (I might learn to take two or three clubs one of these days!)

Eagle Rock is another nice course that is reasonable priced and well maintained. First hole is the longest on the course and it can set the tone of your round. Good driving range/practice greens etc. The course has come a long way since they first opened.

Red Tail Landing is a little more pricey but well worth playing once or twice a year. There are not many trees on the course but accuracy is key with its heavy, long grass rough. You have to make sure you have a good supply of balls on hand just in case.

There are other courses around here that are OK but nothing, I think, like the three above.

Are there any Schwag likes around here?

hehe yeah you guys mention some pretty good courses.

I've never played coloniale, so schwag, what's wrong with it? I went to the golf show this weekend (clearance center was pathetic) and guys from Coloniale were there handing out membership sheets. I ask cuz i'm looking to get a membership and coloniale's price wasn't too bad. RedTail had some decent membership deals, but i didn't see any other edmonton courses.

hehe ya jagare's another one i'm considering getting a membership with, is it a harder course... lookin at the yardages, some holes aren't too long, but i'm going to guess ball placement is everything at jagare?

RedTail is awesome, only played the back nine.

Never played Eagle Rock.. how is that one? what are their men's league like schwag? Do you need ot have low handicap?

yeah also maybe you guys know about calgary courses too? i may be moving to calgary .. (ugh..... stupid flames) but i gather both golf and golf memberships are far more pricier than edmonton huh? or maybe i should start a new thread for calgary? haha :kewlpics:

Coloniale is just a personal thing for me (I actually shot my lowest score for 18 there last year) I was just dissapointed in the course....Jagre Ridge has a lot of elevated tees, the Sceniary is just awesome there but you will find yourself teeing off on a Par 4 with a 7 iron alot

I am not to sure about Eagle Rocks mens night I know they have different flights, I am sure they have a flight to accomidate everyones handicap.

I went to the golf show aswell this weekend and found it pretty weaksauce.....total lack of local courses I have however been brainwashed to go play golf in BC now.....Also very dissapointed that us lefties get left out on club selection :) ..... I did hit the new Mactec, I love that thing.. it might find its way into my bag this year.

Coloniale isn't cart path only....it depends on how wet the fairways are.

Overall a very good course that was kept very well last year.

It has smaller greens, and not a lot of area to run a ball up so keep your bump and run shot a home...you'll need to fly pretty much everything to the hole.

I'm a member here so I have some bias.

Don't care for Eagle Rock...lots of hacks and the fairways are usually dry like runways.

Jagare Ridge had so much potential for a great course, but it's got such a wonky design...I can only hit driver on 3 holes (and even then it's not required), and it's a lot of mid irons off the tee.

The Bear is a nice course, but I prefer Redtail (prolly my fav in Edmonton). Lots of challange and forces you to play well to score low.

Always in great shape and has the niceest greens in the city. Receptive AND fast!

I'm in Calgary, but I'm an Edmontonian by birth. I'd consider coming up there if an outing was organized that fits into my schedule.

I'm a former member of the Mayfair, I'd love to get back up there and play it again (it's been about 12 years since I've played there).

The ranch was much better before the chopped down the rough and fescue....

But even then there are a number of "quirky" holes.

All in all, not a bad track, but there are MUCH better.

Wouldn't a phone call from your head pro already do that?

I know I'm able to get onto all the private courses in the city, and so far have had no issues with getting on at other private courses throughout Canada.

Congratulations on your VIP status. I am sure phone calls from my pro would work as well, that isn't to say that I can't look for playing partners at other private courses in Calgary.

Settle down there Tiger...
You mentioned you were looking to swap guest privilages so you can "try" other courses.

My point is a phone call from your head pro (since you are a member of a private course) will allow you to "try" other private courses without having to worry about hooking up with a current member to play. And usually much easier to setup.

I just posted to give you another option that will enable you to "try" other private courses...

Best of luck.

My bad on that one, I got a little over-sensitive. I thought it may be a way to meet some new friends as well since being stuck in an office all day doesn't too much in the way of social networking lol.
