Best GPS?

Hey guys, i know there are a bunch of GPS threads on here but i think i might be looking for something slightly different than most guys on here. I don't play any one course very often, i play a bunch of different courses every year - so i don't think that i'll need to map additional points like i would if i had a regular "home" course. Basically i just want something that will give me front, center and back of green distances and lay-up/carry distances for hazards. What do you think?

thanks!

I would say check out the websites of all the models you are considering and see which one offers the most course mappings for the ones you like to play and that should give you your answer.

Here's a website with a GPS Comparative Table. I don't know if it's all of them, but shows you alot of succinct information.

http://www.digicaddie.wlb1.com/gps_comparative_table.html

There are also Blackberry apps, iPhone apps, palm/treo apps, etc.. but from what I gather, their GPS receivers are not as quick at updating your current location as the others. I don't know this for sure because I have never used one of those apps.

Great link! An update to that is the Golf Guru now has a color unit for $369.95 that stores up to 200 courses on the unit and their course library continues to grow quickly, now numbering well over 12000.

You can't go wrong with the Golf Buddy Pro (black/white Screen) or Tour (color). Who needs to run back and forth to the computer to download courses? Who has time for that? 200 courses on a Golf Guru.......LOL.......wimpy. 20,000 course capacity on my Golf Buddy which came preloaded with around 14,000. No fees.......ever....for anything!

The point is that no matter where I go, more than likely it's on the unit already.....that's conveniece. Many times I've teed it up at places at a moments notice. This thing also keeps score and will hold 1000.

What's that Moody Blues song "22,000 days" representing the avaerage lifespan of a human.....hey, I'll do my part to get a good portion of the list played.

Good trick is when you're driving down the road, turn it on and hold it out the window a little.....it will tell you how close you are to the nearest course.

Go with the sonocaddie! The black and white version is around $150 and they have NO annual free and free unlimited course downloads. It holds 20 courses at a time which is about all you could ever need at one time, but dropping a couple and adding a few for a vacation is done easily within 1-2 minutes and mouse clicks. It is standard with front-middle-back yardages to the greens and various other distances including OB, Water, Bunkers, Trees. Just a great deal for the price.

Sonocaddie is my choice - along with a laser range finder (from within 200 yards for precision to the flag)

I like Sonocaddie for 3 reasons:

1. Not bulky like the Skycaddie's

2. Electronic built in scorekeeper

3. No annual fees - you can download new courses for free and make your own courses

I've owned the Sonocaddie black/white XC2 for 2 years and it has worked great for me. Have the Sonocaddie V300 Color Screen on its way to me now :ok:

I would have to say the color Golf Guru. It's very easy to use and very accurate. The display can be seen in direct sunlight a most excellent unit. In addition the tech support is excellent. Plus no yearly fees for courses and easy to upload to the unit. I requested a course to be mapped (3-nines) on Wednesday and it was mapped by Friday night, what service :yahoo:
