Cheap Rangefinder?

To help my game...

Does anyone know of a very inexpensive rangefinder ($150 or less) that I could buy? Does it really help your game that much to know the exact distances to pins, etc, because my eye for distance is terrible. I am mainly looking for one to use to help develop a better sense of distance, without a rangefinder.

We have a Bushnell...don't know the model number...but got it at a hunting/camping store. I find it difficult to use. I can't hold it steady enough to get an accurate reading (when we walk, there's no golf cart to lean against), or there isn't anything to aim at to give you the distance information you need. My husband uses it all the time, but I'm looking to purchase a gps unit for myself. There is one out there for under $150...iGolf Neo. There are a lot of postings on this item.

I agree with the previous poster. Even though i have no experience with the neo personally, in your budget range, you will get the most bang for the buck and it will probably help your game better than the rangefinder. I also find rangefinders in that price range to be very hard to get a good reading. I have seen others use a neo on the course and they like it. I think I am going to get a skycaddie myself, but if I only had 150 i would by the neo. If you hate it, you can return it.

I personally own the iGolf Neo and have like it a lot. I'm sure there are better GPS units, but for the cost I have been very happy. I didn't even bother to join the service to download courses since I have several friends who also have iGolf units and have just gotten my courses from them. Once you have the courses you do not need to be a member unless you want to download new. The membership is $35 a year (for 100 course downloads). Dollar for dollar, I think it's a great deal.

Look for the Bushnell Yardage Pro. It's an older model but it can be had for less than $150 on ebay and probably amazon marketplace. The link I provided is for Golfsmith, but you shouldn't buy it there since it's $269. This is what I use now and it scans the targets fairly quickly. Didn't work for me last week during the heavy rain and 2 days ago during heavy fog, but other than that it works great 200yds and in. Beyond 200yds you're going to have to have very stable hand, and a large target.
