For us it is

1st day- Range time, then this thing called showtime (one player at a time hits one shot at a target on the range, this is repeated 3 times to different targets, at different lengths, the one drive), then a quick 2 or 4 holes

2nd day- Range time, then short game skills (such as sand work, chipping, and putting.), then 9 holes.

3rd day- Range, then 18 holes.(50% of your tryout is based on the 18 holes)

We usually have about 25 people tryout, and 12 make the team, plus 2 reserves who only play or practice if one of the starting players is injured.

I graduated in 01 and we had 30-40 try out and had 15 spots to fill. 12 on JV and 3 on varcity.

First was putting. They set it up to where we had to putt to 10 different holes with lengths from 50 feet to ten feet. 20 was par.

Then was chipping from about 10 yards off the green to the pin in the center with 10 balls. They had three rings set up around the pin. 5 feet, 10 feet, 20 feet. Inside the 5 foot ring was 2 points, outside the 5 to inside the 10 was was 4 points, then from the 10 to inside the twenty was 6 points. Anywhere on the green outside the 20 foot ring was 8 points and off the green was 10 points.

Then we went to an open par 5 and hit drivers and a five iron. Your drive had to be at least 225 yards long and in the fairway was 1 point, rough was 3 points and OB was 5. Same for the five iron from the fairway it just had to be at least 170 yards to count.

I liked the way it was set up because there was no way of anyone cheating or playing favorites. Your tallent got you in and thats it.

Ours is pretty basic...

36 holes lowest combined score gets on the team

we take 10, but this year we only took 3 because of 7 returning players from the previous years

i missed the cut by 2 strokes shooting a 79 83 :russian_roulette:

P.S. im 14 (freshman) going up against seniors... oh well maybe next year

Wow, all you guys seemed to have it pretty hard. I just graduated in 07. We just played a few rounds of nine, very little pressure, and our coach was just good at telling who was good enough for the team. Usually about 17 or 18 tried out and about 11 or 12 made it. But, the second 6 of the rarely played and if they did, it was against the weaker teams. That being said, we just had the varsity team and were pretty good. During my 3 years on the team I think we lost maybe 3 matches and were section champs each year. But, if you're a freshman, don't stress out too much. Even if you don't make it, you have three more years of high school... and just because you didn't make the team doesn't mean you can't go practice every day after school anyway. Good luck.

2 teams. Jv always has 12, Varsity has 8-10. Everybody Try outs for 5 days. Day 1 9 Holes. Rest 18. 1st cuts after 27 holes. Typically just the 60's on nine shooters. Two more days. Get down to like 25. Varsity set to like 5 spots. 6 kids who will make varsity or Jv. The rest fight for the rest of the JV spots.

hey cavity-blade,

it wont let me quote for some reason, so i'll just reply here.

my friends on the team, and she says they practice after school almost everyday.

and it depends on when you guys play.

sometimes you might miss class, and sometimes the game might be after school.

but it might be different for guys, i dont knw..

are you guys trying out right now??? my tryouts are in Feb. I am really excited. when

you make the team what do you do for practice after school? Do you play, practice???

For my team we would have practice 2 days a week and 2 matches a week and then our coach woud give us off Friday. As for matches we were allowed to get off early for only one match a week so sometimes we would miss an hour or two of school to go to a match.

Well my team to go practice all we have to do is find a senior with a drivers lisence and a car and then find our golf coach and ask him to write us co-op for attendence. he'll do this whenever we want :P

for my team its 3 18 hole rounds, usually around 30 to 40 kids for 15 spots and even if u were on team the year before you have to try out. I missed by 1 my freshman year by shooting 89(51 on the front haha), 79, 82, it sucked but i made it the next year and averaged 78 and was 8th on the team. And this year i was either 3 or 4 throughout the season and averaged 75 and won my conferences individual title. We also won our regional championship here in PA, we sucked at states though hahah.

I am a frosh. too. I played varsity this year. I didn't play too well after try-outs. Our team had one mandatory practice brfore try-outs, like a team meating, and while we were there, our coach left or got fired or something. So, we were desperate for a coach and we just got a new A.D., but we came across a great alumn who worked @ a local course. For our first day, we played 18 @ my fav. local course, and the next day, we played 18 at a different course (variety is very important for high school play, espescially if you have a large and expansive schedule). After our second round (day 2), coach made the six lowest scorers varsity, the next 6 JV, and all others were cut but were free t practice w/ us.

*NOTE* Just because you make the Varsity team, doesn't mean that you'll play Varsity all year. If you slack off, you get kicked off. You have to really want it!

today our tem started physical training for next year. we have training 3 times a week for the rest of the year. this is the first time we saw who was trying out. this is where our coach starts making cuts based on attitude and comitmant. P.S. did I mention our coach is completely insane and golf season doesnt start till august 1st

Are teams been section champs past 10 years, with at least 1 D1 scholarship every year. we have a 4 day tryout. day 1 is for all new players to qualify to tryout, next 3 days are 9 hole rounds. your 3 day cumulative score determines if you make the team. we start with 50-60 then go to 30. top 7-8 make varsity, then next 10-11 make JV. But don't take it to seriously and just have fun or it gets hard to play good. to bad were in MN so are tryout dates very every year and get some rough weather

Go Cats, looking for state 3pete.
