You've got your whole life to work - don't get a job.. Sideline as a gigolo

Maybe you can make some money around your neighborhood mowing lawns / washing cars / cleaning windows or something.

Probably your best bet. Most employers like to stay away from child labor laws, so not only getting hired is a problem, but also is getting hours IF you get hired.

Charge $25-$30 per lawn, same for washing and cleaning the inside and outside of cars (a little more if you do full on wax job too). Most people (if you know them) will probably hire the 14 year old looking for a hard earned dollar than going to a car wash or hiring some big lawnmowing business.

Oh, and snow storms could mean big money if you shovel sidewalks and driveways.

Hey, I am about 16, and just about everyone at our clubhouse knows me by name. The easiest way to get clubs is to sabotage your equipment :russian_roulette: But I really wouldn't try it, as that usually backfires. Unfortunately, 14 is too young to work in the States, you need to be 16. Actually you should just ask your dad, he should probably bargain with you. but in the end you and he will come to an agreement.

well i can tell you you can get a job at 14. i did. supermarkets are the only ones that can hire a 14 year old. idk why bt thats just how it is. otherwise 15 to get working papers for a real job, but there are strict limits on what time you can work until. im 19 now, but when i was 14 i worked at my local pathmark and always did lawns and snow shoveling and stuff to get more money. i still mow some lawn and have odd jobs in the summer like giving lessons and stuff, but its good always have one steady job to go with these lil things becuase they are not always dependable for money. and i will tell you it feels great when you buy your own stuff. EVERYTHING in my bag i paid for myself. good luck

Your Dad's a dentist and he won't get you sticks.

Yup.. hes going crazy about the economy over that people who earn $250,000 or more are going to pay over 50% of that in taxes. And he wants me to earn it.

I'm kinda getting to think he mite just be a little bi-polar tho.

ANyways thanks guys for the posts! Seems like i can earn $$ in a lot of ways.

Hey man. I started working as a cart boy at a golf course last summer and I was 14. The sweet thing is you can play golf for free and hit range balls for free and you get paid!!!!! I get like a 30% discount on almost everything and I get free food. Look into that and see what you can find. It's a sweet job. Hope this helps and good luck getting money HAHA

In my case working is nearly impossible. No courses around here even have caddies. Shoveling snow is out because ii doesn't snow. Ever. I live in South Texas so the lawn mowing idea is out because there are plenty of guys who are supporting families who will already do it for $20 and if i take any less than that it's not even worth getting up in morning. All the golf store jobs are taken by winter texans who decide to stay or by guys that retiered but went back to work because they were board. Everyone at the local stores are no younger than 35. Jobs at the course are impossible to come by because there are more qualified adults who need jobs. In supermarket idea is wonderful except that it seems like half of my high school (a little ove 2700 students) works there and there are no jobs, plus their hours suck. Also, I'm not nearly good enough to play for money unless i want to hustle eighty year old women (I've considered it, don't judge). Well, i guess i'll have to keep saving up the birthday and christmas money. Why can't my dad or mom win the lottery!

I get most my clubs for free. The ones I do buy come from working on the maintenance crew" mowing the rough, tee boxes, weedeating, picking up trash every morning, cooling the greens off, working on mowers, and mowing the range. When they don't need me I work at a feed yard with irrigation pipe. Manual labor is always a good way too pick up money. I can usually work a summer and be tied over till the spring when I start working again. This year I've bought more than I thought I would.

No offense here but it sounds to me like you are looking for every excuse in the book not to find a job. If you want to work you can always find a job. It just depends on how much you want something, as to how hard you will look for a job. Pick up aluminum cans or something.. If you want to work you can find it.

Hey Bud,

If I were you I'd def try and caddy! Nowhere around here really uses caddies, or I would've done it at your age.

However, at the age of 14 I did work at Chickfila part time. Not sure if they still hire 14 year olds or not, but I had a good time with it (we were all teenagers, made like 6.50 an hour) but we could only work like 3 hours on schoolnights and 16 or so hours a week, unless school was out - so you should be in luck right now if that is an option for you.

Well I'm not really a "junior" anymore at 22, but I will say I've purchased all of my own clubs since freshman year of high school when I started playing for the team. I saved up and bought my first set of good irons, Titleist DCI Oversize+ for $350 at the time. Worked awesome for what I needed. As times gone on, I've got better and better equipment. Last year I used buying run down Cameron putters, having them refinished, and selling for a profit. Paid for the whole bag setup that way. It was a side hobby that happened to pay for my true hobby, and working at my normal job covers the rest of my expenses (aka, mostly college). The market got pretty saturated with custom putters though and the economy obviously went down, so I can't really do the whole buy and sell thing anymore. I got burned pretty bad on a few of them before I realized I had to get out.
