Current (and should/need to remain):

(1) Winged Foot

(2) Oakmont

(3) Bethpage

(4) Torrey Pines

(5) Baltusrol

Future (2 that I'd like to see but probably never will):

(1) TPC @ Sawgrass - this could be the hardest course on the planet given the traditional USGA "touch-up routine"

(2) Murfield Village - out on the limb with this. I think Murfield Village could be made as difficult as any of the current in rotation

This is off topic, but do you ever wish they would turn the pros loose on a real goat track? Maybe not for the US Open, but let them play some typical $30 muni somewhere in the same conditions the hackers play it every week. Bare spots in the fairway, dead spots on the greens, bunkers not ranked, generally poor conditions.

There are so many good US Open tracks in my mind:

Pebble Beach

Oakland Hills

Congressional

Shinnecock

Winged Foot

Erin Hills (future)

Bethpage Black

Pinehurst #2

Southern Hills

and that's not even all of them. Generally, the older they've been around, the better I like 'em. Erin Hills is going to be an awesome venue in 2017 if they make the final bid to the course.

Chambers Bay looks overrated. I don't care for Torrey Pines.

2010 might be the best rotation for major courses in one season ever. Augusta National, Pebble Beach, St. Andrews, and Whistling Straits.

Ditto on the above post that suggests Muirfield Village as a venue. And TPC Sawgrass would also be great venue - as long as the committee don't go bonkers with the set-up and render it unplayable.

Merion and Pine Valley would also be fantastic to see on the rota again - but sadly neither matches up the current need for ever longer courses.

The US Open will be at Merion in 2013....

Oops! I didn't know that - and they've presumably stretched the course out to suit. My bad... 'Doh!' :fool:

Not a bad list you guys have going, but theres some that are just better suited as PGA championship courses and not US Open courses.

Clubs like Oakland Hills, Southern Hills, Baltusrol, Medinah, Valhalla, even Oak Hill are just better suited as PGA championship courses and not US Open courses. I was not a fan of Winged Foot as a US open course either.

I believe that the US Open should be played for the most part on courses readily accessible to the public. Its the "people's open" so make it a tournament the masses can relate to (which is why I'm a big fan of them choosing Torrey Pines, Bethpage, and in the future Chambers Bay). Of course there are the classics, Oakmont is a gem for certain and Pebble is good once every decade. Finally, I think Whistling Straits should move from the PGA championship rotation to the US Open.

I am gonna go ahead and call Tiger winning the slam in 2010! Not a very weak limb really I guess!
