site dot, site line or nothing?

I have been in a quandry for sometime on this subject. What do you prefer and why?

I am currently using a sight line, have never used a sight dot, but have used putters w/o a line or dot and personally I have no preference I can roll any of the 3 ways. Only because the putter is the only club I have ever had any confidence with. I think concerning your quandry a sightline would probably be the best bet to instill alignment confidence.

Sight line for me please. I like to have something that is a line up aid, but have never seen a sight dot that I liked. The closest was a Scotty that had a red dot while everything else was done it white. It just looked right.

I need a line to line up with the line I put on the ball. :drinks:

Just need the sight dot... no sight line I never use and it's a distraction. Like it clean and simple.

Frustrated cos I like the Newport II but you cant get it without the sight line.

After reading a long thread last night on David Orr's putting studies, it's best to go nekked.

... Nothing. I think it gives me a better feel for the putt. I am then rolling the ball in the hole with all my emphasis on speed, not tryin to make a stroke along a line.

I actually like not having anything there.

me? sightline... easier to line up to a line then a dot.

site line but honestly I don't really care much about it as long as the putter face feels good to me.

There's been studies shown that using alignment lines typically makes a golfer's alignment worse and using the line on the ball has marginal improvement that it's almost unnoticeable. I went to the PGA Tour Superstore the other day in order to buy a putter and I tried as many different putterhead and hosel combinations I could. I did find that I aligned best without a site line...problem is that there are very few putters without a site line. I wound up getting the Cleveland Classic #3 putter since I aligned best with short slant hosel putters and in particular aligned pretty well with this putter. I then just got some nail polish remover and took the site line off.

I don't have any sitedot's or lines on my putters. I prefer to align the face against the ball vs a line or dot..

Probably something I got from the early days with a ping anser.

I have all three versions (what true putter HO doesn't), so all work. If you like the look of the putter IMO it will work no matter what the sight aid is/ isn't.

Putting is all about the player becoming one with the putter.....neither is needed and I think the best of the best do not rely on either to be honest.

But personally I'll feel my putt before relying on a dot or line or nothing at all.

I like a sight line. For me it helps build confidence. I've tried putters with all three, but have only gamed putters with a sight line.

I have to have a sight dot. I'll go one further and say I need a sight dot that provides the right contrast with the putter finish. I currently, and have been for two years, am using a black putter with a white site dot. I've made a ton of putts with this setup.

I have a site line, that i line up w/ on the ball. It helps me to see the line to the hole better

I keep coming back to line, but I have one or two of each. This may sound crazy, but some days I putt better with one putter than another, so I warm up with a couple that I bring and pick the one that feels right that day.

I like the sight line, but would prefer to add a line on either side of the sight line that is on my C-05 right now. I feel the wider alignment aid of 2 or 3 lines is superior to one.

the ball with line closer to the heel. Works very well !!!!!! takes out some of the break

i actually don't mind, but prefer having either nothing or perhaps a small dot.
