Courses around the Gulf Shores/Fort Walton Beach Area

Looking for a few good courses to play coming up this September any help from the board.

Gulf Shores is about 2 hours from FWB, and I don't really know that area.

I'm from the Shalimar/Fort Walton Beach area, and there are two courses I mainly play.

- Fort Walton Beach Golf Club: Its the local muni, and pretty cheap to play. Its a decent track, with decent practice facilities. They have two 18 hole courses, the Oaks and the Pines.

- Shalimar Pointe Country Club: My home course. Its located in Shalimar, FL, which is about 5 minutes away from FWB. Its a nice track that I mainly play. Its a little more expensive than FWBGC, but they have some nice winter rates.

Kelly plantation and Regatta Bay is always a nice place to play in Destin. In Gulf Shores you can play places like Kiva Dunes or the Peninsula Club but it will cost you a pretty penny.

The only course I have played in that area would be Indian Bayou in Destin. It wasn't a bad track. I played there this past summer. I was only allowed one day on the family trip to play and that was the course my brother-in-law and I played. 27 holes and the layout is rather nice.

Well you have quite a few choices in between those two places. Ill start to the west. You can play cotton creek (both courses) on 59 in Gulf Shores, or head east and hit Lost Ball (I mean Lost Key) Its a test you need to keep it in the fairway. There is the Moors up on I10 which is nice. Tiger Pointe is also a good one as well down in Gulf Breeze. Kelly Plantation is an awesome track but expensive as all hell when you can get on in Destin. There are a lot of nice course in Pensacola some I like better than others but they all are fun to play.

Kiva Dunes is a great course; I believe Q School tournaments have been played there (rated 2nd or 3rd best course in AL you can play by many golf publications).

Craft Farms has 54 holes, with two courses by Arnold Palmer, that seemed to get a lot of good reviews, but I have not played there.

The Penisula Club is 27 holes of great golf. I played a newer course called Soldier Creek - fairly inexpensive at the time and not a bad layout....I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.
