glad to see they've finally decided to use an AM&E cover, the stock ones were one of the worst on the market

the designer series looks interesting, but for $500?!?!?! there's plenty of competition out there for that price, i can almost get one each of Byron and C&L for that kind of money

To me one of the true classic putter designs of all time is the Wilson 8802. It still evokes a since of tradition and legend to virtually every golfer.

Like top hats and snowballs, there's something about high-toned copy and sloppy proofreading that puts a smile on my face.

I thought you might post this tonight! If only I had $450 to spend on a putter! I don't like the 8802, but I would consider purchasing this collectors Bimini as an investment.

I read the link, but I'm kind of slow today. What makes the limiteds more $$$ than the retail releases (aside from grip and headcover)?

There are also a higher degree of custom options via length and lie angle during the order process.

The bottom line on value is that this is a limited edition 1 of 500. $450 done right.

I wish my Bimini came with that headcover!

Great site, love the explanation and pics of all that goes into the collector's series. Anyone know if the regular Bimini will also be milled in a similar fashion, or will it be cast then milled as they mention to be the standard practice? Either way, too bad it looks like they're not planning to friction weld the piece of 304 to the 303 on another corner to satisfy the lefties. :pardon:

The regular ones are cast or skim milled?

I need to be able to justify to myself buying the collector's Abaco over the regular one :)

That putter is NOT 100% CNC milled, the hosel is welded on.

Retail is cast then milled . And yes the Colectors is 304 welded to 303 then totally Milled ...sorry for the tecnacality .

Ok putter, but not for $500. I would rather buy 2 C&L putters or one of the new Byron DH 89 putters!

As per RIFE customer service:

"The Collectors series were made by hand and 100% milled. The standard Bimini is cast first and then the face is milled. Head weight is 330 not 345 and it is an "over fit" length since it is measure all the way up the shaft and not from where the ball is. That is why the swing weights are different because the 35 Bimini is actually almost a 36 when you measure it against a standard putter that is measured form the ball. Hope this helps."

Does anyone know what they are talking about regarding length of the putter? Not quite understand it.

It wouldn't be the first 8802 style putter to be milled with a welded neck. :rolleyes:

I'll probably try the retail model. Stainless isn't my preferred metal for 8802 styles. Carbon steel would definitely raise the pulse a little more.

I like that headcover and grip.. Loft, lie options a plus..

Thanks for all the help Doc. Danny at Rife has been very helpful, even offering to throw in the alternate collector grip in case I should want to change it.

I've been dreaming about this putter at night, I think I'm going to pull the trigger tonight after a few drinks. I broke my shoulder over Thanksgiving so all I can do now is putt on my mat in the living room, the pain pills could also contribute to my willingness to make the purchase!!

I'll post my review when it gets here. Can't deny that I will likely be slightly biased given the amount of money I'm about to spend...

There are definately better investments out there for $500 IMO.

All i see is the blade. Are they going to be coming out with this in different models???

There will be four Collector Series putters this year. The Bimini is first. Look for the Abaco next. From there I'm not certain.

One thing certain is that you'll not be able to get these collector editions anywhere but direct from RIFE.

Got mine today!! What a beauty. I also have a YES! Sophia and the setup on the Rife is miles ahead. The ball has a great roll on mishits toe/heel, but the click from the generous sweet spot is sweet. Club is gorgeous, collectors series Winn grip is great, and the headcover is beautiful. Smaller than the regular AM&E's which tends to fall off my Sophia in the bag. Wish there wasn't 2 inches of snow on the ground here in Baltimore cause I'd love to get it on a green instead of the putting mat in my living room. The customer service experience with Danny at Rife was also an absolute pleasure. Rife has earned a lifelong fan!!!!! Thanks also for all the help Doc.
