YES! Callie Custom by Tom Slighter

lumbee1977

Recommended Posts

Just finished up, on the way home!!!
I sent my YES! Callie to Tom about 4 weeks ago. I had him create a floating face, also known as "beech" or "sound slot". I also had him add a "tour dot" on the back. He finished the entire putter off in matte black.

I think it turned out awesome, I was very happy with Tom and his work. Unreal customer service, kept me in the loop the entire process and super turn around time.

Worth every penny,

-Brandon.

Let me know how it works out. I wonder if the finish will affect the performance of the grooves.

That look cool. Thanks for the Pics. Can you feel the difference? Why the dot?

My thoughts exactly. I'm told that the large Dot on Tiger's putter is to take out a few grams of weight. He's VERY sensitive to that.

Overall - GREAT PUTTER!!!! Do you mind sharing the cost?

also - can you send Slighter a bashed-up dinged putter, and will he smooth out the bumps? I'd like to do this as well, but only if they can finish it up clean without dings.

I'm thinking about purchasing one of the Yes! model putters.

Which blade model do you guys reccomend?

What is the difference between the Callie, Tracy and Tracy II?

The website says:

The C-Groove Tracy model has a classic sloping perimeter face-balance weighted design made of 304 stainless steel.

The C-Groove Tracy II model is a slightly toe-down putter made of 304 stainless steel.

The C-Groove Callie model is a slightly toe-down putter made of 304 stainless steel.

How would a toe-down putter differ in terms off feel and stroke? Wouldn't everyone prefer face-balanced?

Thanks!

thats awesome. how does the floating face feel? i have a yes callie, and love it but with the face had a better feel and sound, like my scotty newport beach. i know with the grooves, its going to be hard to match the sound, but the beach slot should add some more feel to it. let me know what you think.

Clearing up a few questions either posted or PM-ed to me:

1. Cost- Total was about $150 for everything including shipping. Again I had a beach slot cut, tour dot added, and the matte black finish.

2. Grooves- I have yet to try it out, first round will be this weekend, but I spoke with a few others who have put a finish on their YES! putters and been told it has zero effect on the performance of the C-grooves. This opinion was shared by Tom when I asked prior to his refinishing.

3. Turn Around time- I sent it Tom's way 4 weeks ago. I can not tell you enough times how easy and responsive working with Tom was. My only regret is that I can not drop the cash to have Tom build me a Slighter Custom putter from scratch. For indepth details visit www.slightergolf.com

4. Why the Tour Dot? Not sure, I just liked the way it looked. No other reason but maybe to add a little color and make it unique.

5. What does the slot do? Great answer the the big-daddy putter guru himself:

That is all folks, thanks for the feedback. The YES! tour van is making a stop in my hometown in a few weeks, I can't wait to see the YES! peoples reaction!

How much do his customs run... I know you can fill out the page for a quote... but I was wondering if anyone knew the range...

Thanks.

It depends on the putter. A round about range is $200. The way I see it, we'll drop $300-$400 for a driver, but only $75 on a putter? We're using a driver maybe 9 times a round, but a putter 25-35 times a round? To me it's all in the way you look at it. ;)

Alright... I was thinking it would be like $500. $200's not too bad.

I like the fact that he'll add a sound slot to anything.

Tom is very reasonable. The most you should pay is $250-$275 and that's the worst. I have two. Very solid and very balanced. Excellent putter. Tom will walk you through it the whole way and will stay in contact with you. I've known him for almost 3 years now. A great guy and very honest.

WOW!!!! i love how this putter came out. i've been pondering over getting a YES! callie for a while and this certainly helps me want one even more! do you know how he removed the paint in the second set of picts you have, making it look like a satin chrome? that finish with a little dark red paint fill... cant stop thinking of the possiblities... hope you love it. ;) ;) :idhitit: :bb2:

You should take the time to fill out the quote form. It is a great feeling to get a price back on something that is just what you want. I think that the poster who knows Tom may be a little low on his estimate. Remember though, a full custom through Cameron's shop could run you $4000, easily for a nice GSS. Tom's stuff is gorgeous, well designed, and he strives to get you exactly what you are looking for. My Tacoma Long Neck is in the pipe, but still probably 5 weeks out from delivery. I can't wait. Take the time and send in a request. You'll be treated like a Pro, just watch.

Thanks,

  • 3 weeks later...

I was contemplating having my Yes! Sophia done in a triple black since the shiny flange is distracting on sunny days. Now I'm definitely going to get it done by Tom, your Callie looks awesome.
