circa 62 #3 vs. studio select newport 2

Ive never tried the studio, but i have a circa #3 that I really like. Its just got something very smooth about it. Although the finish isnt so durable. Good Luck! I dont think you could go wrong either way.

I prefer the look of the 62's. Just classy looking imo.

The gunned circas I like a lot. The charcoal mist, not so much.

gunned circa > studio select > charcoal circa IMO

id go for the studio select (as i already have :D)

I have never putted with a Studio Select outside but have with a Circa. Both are very nice putters. I like the Circa so based on my experience I would side with the Circa. The best thing to do is to try them out side by side with a ball you play with and then make a decision. As for the cutting down to 33", yes, it will affect weight. You will have to add lead tape to it (preferably on the sole) to get the weight up or the putter head will be too light and you might not be able to feel it. However, some people like light putters. Again, try choking down and see if that helps before cutting down the putter.

Feel difference between the gun and CM Circas?

Yes I would also like to know if theres a feel difference between the gun blue and charcoal mist

Both are great. But i think the circa has a nicer touch to it...i dont know what but it just does, maybe the finish. You'll be happy with both though.

Also about the gun blue how is it... i havent putted with it

Feel is very subjective, but I find the gun circa to feel (read:sound) much softer than the charcoal mist.

I haven't been able to tell any difference in the gun and charcoal mist.

I have had both and I chose to stick with the Circa #3 due to it lending better to an "arc" stroke. Being 5'9'' I too was curious about how the putter would perform if I cut it down. So instead of just wondering, I stopped by my local club builder and discussed my options. He said that other than applying lead tape (which looks ugly in IMO), the only option would be to add lead powder down the shaft and epoxying a cork on top to keep everything in place. He did a meticulous job and made sure to keep the swingweight the same (I believe D4) before he was done. The FINAL RESULT? could not be happier! I don't have to choke down on the putter anymore to keep it flat on the ground and I can just let my arms hang naturally leaving me to worry ONLY about the stroke. Hope that helps!

One more thing to consider is the fact that the Circa is a carbon steel putter and the select is stainless which will make the Circa a little softer, which is very desireable for me. Either would be a great choice as both are nice putters. Good luck on your choice.

I'm am in the exact same dilemma as you. Cannot decide between the Circa #3 and SS Newport 2. I was all about the the Circa but am now leaning SS as it has the option to increase the weight (although I do not know if this costs extra) and is a little easier to aim. It is tough because they are quite different. I think I'll end up with the SS, but I don't think you can go wrong with either one, both are of phenomenal quality and inspire confidence. Let us know when you decide and why, I'm interested to hearing your take.

circa 62 CM #2 ftmfw!!!!

I went Studio Select becasue of the simple fact that you can get it 33/360 right off the shelf and have it adjusted accordingly if you don't like it. Also they can be painted and tricked out pretty cool to! (do a search for some paintfills) The finish will also last forever......But all in all the biggest factor was length and headweight combo's that were easily attainable!

Talking just feel.... I find the gunned soft carbon steel to be preferable. IMO the charcoal mist is just like the pro plat finish in regards to feel. The charcoal mist feels clicky whereas the gunned feels soft. If you're used to playing a pro plat, you won't notice any big difference playing a charcoal mist.

I compared a studio design gunned putter to a studio design with custom shop pro plat..... same putters but the finish difference makes them play like night and day. Did the same with circa 62 #1 models with same results. The feel of the gunned/raw finish can't be beat. Obviously the compromise is maintaining the gunned/raw finish.
