What shaft is Cameron using in the Studio Select?

What shaft is Cameron using in the Studio Select line up? It does not have any steps. Anyone know? Are these available as an aftermarket purchase via a different outlet?

It is a taper tip shaft, and I would guess that the True Temper Straight Taper putter shaft (product code STP) is either the one or very similar. Golfworks has it in their catalog (code YST) for $7.99.

If it was true temper it would probably say true temper on it?

That would not be like Cameron to have TT plastered on the shaft somewhere....if it is, it is hidden under the grip.

I am only guessing. Only Scotty knows for sure. Maybe True Temper makes them for him without the silk screening.

I would bet it is TT without silk screening. Anything comes with a price.

The shaft Scotty Cameron uses is a True Temper putter shaft that is made especially for him and comes without any TT logos.

The YST straight taper .355 putter shafts that The Golfworks sells are the exact same shaft that are in the Selects. I have reshafted 5 or 6 of the Studio Selects with this shaft and it is a perfect replacement.

Hope this helps.

The Golfworks YST shaft is very similar but it is slightly thicker in the butt end--FWIW.

Also, Cameron uses TT shafts and always has but apparently he is too cool to allow a TT label on his putters.

I guess it is all about Cameron. I could care less because I know Cameron does not makes shafts. I think his marketing ego is a little much.

Not having the TT logo is not a big deal, IMO. The Ping JAS shaft doesn't have manufacturer markings, just Ping JAS, and I'm pretty sure Ping isn't making their own putter shaft.

BTW, I don't doubt that he's using TT... but I'm not sure anyone here really knows that he is. Just because the YST shaft "is a perfect replacement" doesn't mean anything other than it is a .355 shaft.

In the end, I don't think it matters at all.

It would probably matter to someone who is looking to reshaft a 33" or 34" Studio Select to 35" with the intent to keep the same feel and weight. That is what I was trying to achieve when I used the YST shaft from Golfworks.

Ummm the "I don't think it matters" is in reference to if it has TT silk screened on the shaft or if Cameron has special shafts made with out the logo. BTW, if you're reshafting a 33"/34" to 35" it won't have the same feel or weight unless you are back weighting it. You are adding 6-12 swing weight points by adding 1-2" (all other things being equal). Nothing wrong with that, I've reshafted quite a few to get a heavy head in a 35" club.

I meant the same feel with regards to the shaft performance and weight of the shaft. The YST shaft from Golfworks is great for replacing the stock shaft in the Studio Selects.

You are right...I could care less if the shaft has the "True Temper" logo on it or not. If you are looking at the shaft graphics when putting, you are probably worried about the wrong thing!

What is the advantage of the stepless putter shaft?

All the old Ping Ansers and a lot of the scotty Newports (including Tiger's) have stepped shafts with a long first step.

Are stepless shafts better, or easier and cheaper to make?

Maybe Flex of the shafts are more consistent stepless?? I once heard flex is the most important thing in a putter shaft??

I don't really have any data on advantages of step or stepless, in putter shafts. There may be absolutely no difference. To me it's purely aesthetics, I like the looks of a stepless shaft.

Yes. Feel free to purchase that shaft and it will work just fine. I have used the Cameron shafts for a long time and the YST stepless is a very good replacement.

I know in the old ping putters the 9" first step (very rare) gave the putter great feel. It was probably a softer shaft that way you can feel the putterhead (my assumption). They dont make putter shafts liek that anymore...

I don't mind replacing a SC shaft with a suitable substitute, but where do I get a Studio Select shaft label (35")?

Or, should I just extend the stepless in my S Select?

To balance the weight, I'm moving from 20g weights to 10g weights while lengthening to 35", which is my prefered length.

I have hit a 34" SS with both a stock stepless shaft and a steped shaft. Other than the shafts they were the exact same down to grip. (Studio Design) Side by side these putters felt the exact same...Butter. Ultimatly I chose the stepless shaft because it had the shaft band, but performance wise it could have gone either way.

I heard (not sure if its true) it cost between $30-$50 for the shaft band, but I'm not sure if they would just send one out. Even if you get a TT shaft for $8 it will not have the laser etched number on it. I only say this because it seems like you are trying to return this club to stock and with out the number it would cast a shadow of doubt on the authenticity of the putter. You probably have to send it off to the SC custom shop to get it all done, seeing that they won't even sell you the weight kit. If you have 20g weights you SS is most likely a 33" right? For everything you have to do you may just want to sell it and get a different 35". Even if you take a hit by selling the 33" cheaper it will still be less than getting it redone by scotty.

only tangibly related but arguably the flex of the shaft, even in a putter, is important to some. for example, a couple weeks ago the golf channel focused a little bit on Ernie Els' recent putter change (callaway/odyssey cloned an old putter that he had considerable success with) and even Ernie claimed that he went back to a "softer" shaft for a bit different feel.

just an aspect of putter shafts one might want to consider when trying to "match" an original stock setup.

It is almost impossible to remember how tragic a place the world is when one is playing golf. -Robert Wilson Lynd
