Putter length

What is you guys average putter length,the reason I ask is I just bought a white hot 2 ball and it is about 2 inches longer than my old blade putter.Just wondering if my old one was always too short or will this one be too long.I am average height 5 foot 9

I'm 5'10ish i like 34". Its all about personal preference.

I'm 5'8 and I like 34 inches for my putter length. The fitter recommended me to go down to 32-33 inches but if felt uncomfortable for me to putt with, its definitely preference for sure.

I am 5-08 and usually try and cut my putters to 34.5 inches, mostly a superstition thing but it works.

im 5' 11" and i use a 33.5" putter. It has alot to do with the length of your arms

Its all about personal preference. you have to look at the lie of the putter too! I have one at 35 std and another one at 33.5 at 3* up.

6'3",and I like 33.5 inches. I used to grip down on a 35" until I started buying custom putters and realized I could specify the length.

I'm 5'11'' and am switching to a 33 incher. For me the shorter length lets me make a much more natural, shoulder driven stroke.

I'm 5'11" and play with a 32.75" putter. It's also about 3.5 degrees flat. I have long arms though. I think it helps to get in your stance before grabbing the putter to see whats natural instead of setting up around the putter.

It is important to make sure that your putter is not tooo short for your body otherwise you will hunch over which is bad acording to lots of pga pros etc... But ya all personal preference.

I may have said this in another thread, but I recall Andy North, who won his U.S. Opens based on his putting much more than his shot making, was using a 33 inch putter. Andy goes about 6'4" or so. Arm length notwithstanding, most of us use putters that are too long. For me, shorter putter gives a more shoulder oriented stroke.

I heard one time that the only reason the std putter length is 35" is that way back when they cut a putter so it would stick out of the bag and that ended up being 35". I thought that was interesting.

The place I got my last putter fitted had a handy putter fitting tool that extended in 1/2" increments from 32-36". You simply slid out the handle while taking some putts until you got the best fit.

I'm 6'2, maybe 6'3 in golf shoes and play a 34.5. Just fits good at that length and gets my head in the right place so there's no temptation to move.

34"... I'm 5-10 with a 33" sleeve and 32" inseam.

Ok I just bought a used oddysey 2 ball putter got a hell of a deal I might add,but being the absent mind I am I did not even think to ask the length of it.It is 36 inches measuring down the shft to the ground and my old one is 33.5 measuring the same way,and it feels like it has me too straight up compared to what I came from.Question is can I cut that much off to get to the length of my old putter,I know it will change the swing weight of it but I have never played with it so would I notice that much.I am a about a 13 handicapper so should I just use it first and see how it works for me or cut it down now before I get the feel of it

Actually, I think the "hot" trend toward shorter putters has lead a lot of people to play putters that are too short. The shorter the length, the more difficult an arc stroke it. That's why Utley recommends 35-36" as common. I play mine 35.25".

You are exactly right. These type "trends" get started by club fitters trying to sell something far off the rack to justify their fee, or club makers trying to create club modification business, or guys playing golf who want something exotic and uncommon.

33" is a putter length for a child junior player or petite woman. Adult males in the 5'9" to 6'2 range are going to be best fit with a 35" putter, plus or minus 1/2" dependent on wrist to floor measurement.

For awhile it was a fad to get 32" and 33" putters and say this short length "let the arms hang naturally straight". Well, straight arms is the last thing a player should want when making a putting stroke. Standing relatively tall with slight hip bend and some knee flex is correct putting posture, because it promotes a shoulder powered stroke, which is the most consistent way to swing a putter.

And putting is not "personal". To make consistently solid/square ball contact, it really helps to have this correct fundamental technique.

Extra heavy putter heads and special grind wedges are other nonsense trends that are counterproductive to helping a player's game, but that's another story.

5, 11" and have experimented with putters from 31"-35", I find I feel most comfortable with a 33" Putter and this reflects in putts made as well

After seeing similar threads for years with "I'm this height, so I use this length." And heck, I gave the same response before learning more about putting --

With the quote above, we finally have a response with reasoning behind it.

My question is that if I cut it down to say 34 which would be 2 inches off it,would I totally screw it up as far as swingweight as said before or will I even notice it because I am not used to using it now

I am 5'6" and use a 33" putter. I have been fitted by two different PGA pro's and they have both said that a 33" is the best one for me.
