I love the patina on the ping putters....but anywho, only a couple of hours, then scrub the hell out of it with the green side of a green/yellow brillo pad.

All it is is a tarnish, so it comes off rather easily with the acidic nature of the coke, you can also try white vinegar for a soak, but no need to soak it overnite or anything, despite what people say....here's my A-blade after my coke and vinegar soak, total soak time 3.5 hours and total scrub time was about 2 hours, taking beer breaks in between strokes.(I regret doing it but it was a cheapie, my older ansers will forever keep their patinia.)

You want to use REAL coke not diet. I used vinegar to brighten up my anser w/ sound slot...

Funky, was it my imagination or did the vinegar work faster at "loosening up" that patina?

I never tried the Coke but when I would check it I could see the black patina starting to come to the surface...

Vinegar with lots and lots of salt works very fast (about one hour)

Faster than coke for me

You can reuse the solution another time

Thanks for all the help.I stuck it in vinigar and coke then scrubbed the hell out of it with fine steel wool.It is shiner in person.Unfortunately i don't have any before pics but the end result is good.Just to let you guys know, i also put a silicon sealent(sort of like wd 40 but not oily and has no residue, smell etc..) on the putter to help keep it from tarnishing.It seems to work very well on some of my other putters.Just thought id share that for anyone wondering about that.Im sure there are many products similar though.I to like the patina, but it was very uneven so that is why i decide to go ahead and bring it back to life. Thanks for all the help.

Brasso worked well on my copper/BeCu putters; I just figured it'd work on MgBr. You live and you learn...

Too true Matt!

Unfortunately I lived and learned the hard way - it turned an old Ping a horrible colour. That stuff just doesn't react to mag bronze well at all - it may even say on the bottle which metals not to use it on.

I found the salt and vinegar, followed with a brillo pad, worked much better than coke and a brillo pad

this pic might show. I don't know what you guys think.It doesn't look great because the putter was badly dented before but i sort of like the dimpled look.Give your opinions.

Nice. Good job with the painfill too. That will start to patinate again with a nice even colour now. The Y-Blade (like all the Blade series) is a really nicely balanced putter. Good luck with it!
