Is my Scotty a fake?

I purchased a Scotty Cameron Studio Newport stainless, head and grip in plastic of Craigslist. The guy said he won it in a raffle. Even met up with the guy. Anyways, I posted an ad for it and he told me it may be fake. So I'm going to post some pics and please tell me in your best estimation if you think it's real. I took of the plastic for these pics. It doesn' stick to a magnet, but don't see a serial number.

Sadly, yes it is a fake.

The neck is a dead giveaway

so are the bumpers

The Cameron engraving in the cavity is, IIRC, another giveaway. The font is not quite right. Sorry to see your Cammy is a fake,

Fake. The shaft band is never on the top side of the shaft. The SCOTTY on the neck is a dead give away for me. The dots on the cavity and sole, also as mentioned before the bumpers are terrible.

Grip should not have the dots on it and the shaft label should not be on the front side of the shaft where it can be seen at address.

Thats correct, they do not come in plastic, only the grip

hope you didn't pay too much! that is fake. the stamping on the neck, and the bumpers. fwiw, only have 2 of my camerons conveniently handy, and neither have serial numbers on them unless they're under the grip (futura and SS newport 2).

the colors are a bit off as well

what kind of raffle gives away a fake? :(

Bottom is quite off too from a real stainless. Hope you didn't pay much for it. May be able to pawn off on to someone else j/k

Most likely the guy lied when he said he won it in a raffle. That absolves him of any responsibility. How can you trace that?

Maybe not. Many people have been duped. I bet the person who offered it in the raffle purchased the fake on Ebay and was also duped.

Do you think the ball will know the difference when you putt with it???? I suspect that some better players might know, but it might just putt fine as it is. Just a thought, don't jump all over me. :lol:

I am sure most would not know the difference in feel. However, the counterfeit issue is one not to ignore but that might be another thread.

kuyaariel, yes your putter is a fake. However, use it with the understanding that it is just a putter. Sorry about the circumstances and I hope you can find a measure of peace of mind here, somewhere. Best of luck.

the fake ones always look like the font changes size from top to bottom, the S is smaller than the Y

and the edges of the neck don't look very crisp on fakes

It's amazing what people will do for a buck...nobody is honest anymore.

Well, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and informed the seller via e-mail and voicemail that the Scotty he sold me was fake. I have yet to hear from him. If I don't hear from him within a day, I'm going to post the link to his craigslist ad on here.

Wow...sorry dude. I saw you BST post and immediate thought it was a fake. First tip off was the wrapper on the putter head Then I noticed the colors looked a bit off. Now that I'm seeing the bumpers...it just confirms it.

I've putted with a fake Studio Style before and believe, almost anybody who has golfed could tell the difference.

I have a buddy who putts with a fake Studio Style and he rolls 'em pretty well.

They started putting serial numbers on the shafts more recently. The Studio Styles all should have them though. They're like laser engraved in the area between the shaft label and grip. Some of the fakes have serial numbers that look like they're just stuck on there and could be scraped off...real ones you couldn't alter.

Isn't it a tad extreme to be posting this guys full name, phone number, etc?

I mean sure he sold a fake, but he's still a person just like the rest of us. There is also the off chance he has absolutely no clue it was a fake. I'd do a bit more research before going to extremes. You purchased it in person then right? Why not stop back by his house and talk to him. I'm sure you'll get a full refund.

I agree with the post above.... You should have asked him for true photos first and posted them on here for us to take a look. Sorry that you got burnt, but I guess when you buy stuff like this from non-authorized dealers, there is little recourse. Buyer beware, but I would try calling him again and explainng the situation.

I have deleted the posts where there is personal information of the seller of the so called fake putter.
