Is my Newport fake ?!

Hello to all, excuse my English but I am Italian.

I purchased on ebay a Scotty Cameron Studio Newport.

It stick to a magnet, has the serial number. Unfortunately I have scratched the shaft band.

I have followed this guide ( http://reviews.ebay.com/Counterfeit-Scotty...000000004901621 ) and I think it is original.....

What do you think?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Looks fake to me. A good one, but still fake.

I'm sorry, but it looks like a fake to me. The two telltale signs are 1) the headcover doesn't look genuine and 2) the "insert" looks the same as the rest of the putter when it should have more shine.

Good luck with any recourse against the seller.

The headcover is a horrible fake. It's rounded, and the AM&E tag is generally in the back of the cover at the crease. Not to mention the Titleist isn't even straight and the other lettering is way off.

As for the putter itself though...that's tough. I'll be honest, my first thought is authentic. The serial numbers should look like the one in my picture on the right with the white grip, that's authentic as it's more of a laser engraved on. A fake (on the left) is more of stuck on numbers that appear to be easily removable.

Can't tell too good from these pictures, but the insert also looks to be a different color than the rest of the head. This would be a good sign. Fakes generally are the same color as the same metal is used where as an authentic Cameron uses 2 different types of stainless steel.

There are some little things that do look ever so slightly off on the rest of the head, but man if it's fake...this one's been done real good.

Oh, and another note:

Just because the headcover is fake does not mean that the putter is. Yes generally they would go hand in hand, but the seller could have potentially lost the original cover and picked this one up unknowing.

Man, I hope its not a fake. I have seen to many people ripped off by fake camerons lately. Its depressing. Well you came to the right place guys on this site are cameron crazy and really know everything there is to know.

Looks fake to me too.. the coloring looks off, the bumpers dont look right.. why are so many buying this junk?

I dunno, maybe it's me.. i'd rather spend a little more on my gamer and know what im getting..

Probably the worst fake job on a head cover I've ever seen. Not even close. The putter was better but its most certainly a fake. The first thing to catch my eye on the putter were the four dots on the sole and the back cavity are way too small. Contact the seller asap and get your $ back.

I have a question for the Cameron experts. What styles are faked in Scotty Cameron putters. I've read that the studio style newports and even the selects have been faked. Is there any way a Studio Stainless Newport 2.5 would be fake? Seems like the putter is too old and probably not worth enough to be faked.

Any way to tell for sure? Is there a serial number under the grip? Sorry for changing the topic slightly.

Sorry brother both are fake. Headcover is obvious and dots on putter are a dead give away. See if you can get your money back. Good luck.

Studio Style like this one are faked the most, I have not seen a good fake Studio Select. I have seen some OBVIOUS Studio Select fakes, but no good ones. I wouldnt think they would go to faking old model Camerons. I am sure we will start seeing better Selects faked in the future though.

Fake... bad fake at that. Right now be leary of everything you buy off eBay that you don't know the seller for - SOOOO much fake stuff from EVERY manufacturer out there right now.

The shaft is the biggest giveaway, IMO. Too many steps too close together. Granted, it could've been reshafted, but people rarely reshaft putters, especially Scotties.

Good sign, I used a pretty weak fridge magnet but there was a definite magnetic pull from the shaft but nothing at the head of the putter.

Hopefully that means its authentic.

I'm not disagreeing that your statement is true in 95% of the cases, but...

It's simply not true that a fake will ALWAYS attract a magnet. It is not a sole determiner of a fake is all I'm trying to say.

And, there are still certain cases that stainless steel can gain magnetic properties. I can post links if evidence is needed.

Bought Scotty before I joined this forum.

Wasn't that into the golf scene. Didn't even realize that there were counterfeit camerons. I'll post pics of my stainless after this paintfill is done and you guys can tell me if its authentic. Would be really annoying to find out its fake haha.

Well knowing is half the battle my friend..

Now that you are a member you will never make that mistake.. rather buy way more stuff than you actually need, also learn to customize it, buy shafts that cost more than your clubs, buy a putter that costs more than your irons, then buy a headcover for it that costed more than your driver..

And then start over :)

ok Im a lefty and while searching for an sd1 i cam across a site from overseas that was selling scotty cameron studio newports they were selling them in bulk and potentially this is where all these fakes are coming from, also was looking for a jow montana mitchell and ness jersey which are the same as he wore way back and these are copied and i found that the same person selling the fake mitchell and ness jersey's were selling the fake camerons i will try and see if i can uncover it up on google again for you give me a little time and i will.
