hi. Sorry for jumping in to ask a question.

I want to buy a golf club set for my bf and i have no idea which one to go for. X-22 irons, X-22 tour irons or the x-forged? There are so many options from callaway website, should I just order RH, Callaway stock? Other than the set and the bag, what else do I need to get? Does beginner need the driver and the wedge? He just started to play 6 months ago and he loves it. He is still playing in the golf range to practice his swing now.

I've been searching online trying to see what to get, but I am really lost.

If he's just statrted playing, buy him a used set of clubs. If he really wants callaway, check out callaway's pre-owned inventory online.

Sounds like between you and your boyfriend you don't know much about equipment. Would be best to buy from a golf store or course with knowledgeable staff to help you. Or find a friend who knows about golf clubs.

Used clubs are a great way to go for a beginner. Callawaygolfpreowned.com has good used clubs.

Among Callaway clubs the X-22 tour and x-forged are not good for a beginner (unless your boyfriend is some kind of superior natural athlete). X-22 (or their predecessors in the Callaway line X-20, X-18 ) could be good. Big bertha irons are especially designed for less skilled players.

I have the X Tour in a 52 gap wedge and the X forged in my 56 sandwedge and prefer the feel of the X tour but agree that the heel and toe grind is better on the X forged. Also have an X tour 58 (not currently in the bag) that I had heel and toe ground. Both X tour and X forged impart a lot of spin but IMHO the X tour has more spin.

I am interested in more opinions between these two wedges (X-Tour vs X-Forged). Like someone mentioned in an earlier post - does the X-Tour require someone with a lower handicap to play?

I am coming from Celveland CG10s, which are getting worn, and like these and 588s the best. I have tried many wedges in the past and can't decide (already tried Tour-Ws, Vokeys, CG12/14s). Right now, my short list is TM TP Z (which i like, but only hit them off turf at Golf Galaxy), but I am also interested in the Callaway wedges, mainly because Callawaygolf Preowned has some good deals on X-Tour vintage wedges, and Roger Cleveland designed these. So should I try these? Aside from sole grind, is there that much difference between the X-Tours and the X-Forged? Are they both the same forgiveness-wise?

I've played both and I like the more rounded edges on the X-Forged myself. Also the mack daddy grooves are something special. No joke, insane spin.

Also the X-Tours are inferior to the new X-Forged wedges, it has nothing to do with handicap. Callaway outsourced the X-Forged wedges to Roger Cleveland for the design. That is why the grinds tend to be more appealing. Callaway came up with some new groove technology for the X-Forged wedges over the X-Tours, as well.

Go with the X-Forged wedges and you won't regret it.

I have had 'em both as well but like the Tours a bit better and game those. Only have one Forged left.

I prefer the squarer , sharper leading edge. Both have MD grooves but I also prefer the P grind on the Tour over the C grind I have on the Forged. Lastly the Tours 'seem' to spin the ball with a little less effort for me.

Definitely the x-forged. The tours do not spin anywhere near the x-forged with the md grooves. The x-forged look more appealing to me and feel much much softer as well. I currently game the 56 & 60 with md grooves. These are my favorite wedges of all that I have tried so far! You can't go wrong with these.

Some cunfusion I guess.

Both are Forged ,

Both were Designed By Roger Clevland ,

Both available with MD grooves.

The Tours are styled after Phil Michelsons wedges and available with his (PM) grind and the Forged available with the more typical C grind.

That's the primary differences.

I like the smaller blade length and shape of the X-Forged better. With the longer blade length of the X-Tour I found it hard to catch the ball clean on chips. The X-Forged are much more playable for me, especially from tight lies around the greens.
