Just wondering why Scotty Cameron putters are so high when you buy them and you see more of them on here for sale than all the other putters combined.I am not knocking them because I have never owned one, just an observation

Because there is a perception that they will make you putt better. Perception isn't reality.

I agree with you kiwi, sometimes that is all it takes.Like I said I am not saying anything bad about them just wondering why so many of them end up for sale

Because they're so popular, so many people have them, and therefor will be more of them for sale than other brands. Also, many people collect them or change models regularly and will buy and sell them more often. The fact there's so many for sale is no indication of them being inferior putters or below people's expectations once they get one.

The reason you see so many for sale, and I currently own one and have sold many more, is because once you putt with one you find out they really are no different than hundreds of other putter offerings most of which are far less expensive. So you wind up selling it and buying something that works just a well and taking the extra cash and dropping it on something else you don't need. Trust me I'm an authority on this. Been there, done that.

Cameron putters certainly has a mystique about them. They were one of the first all milled from solid block of steel putters available from a major manufacturer back in the day. The tolerances of milled putters and the beauty of them is still what draws me to these type of putters today. Cameron putters also commanded the most costly OTR prices back in the day as well. I have to admit I was drawn to Cameron because of the concept of an all milled putter. I first saw ads in golf magazines and was drooling all over myself. I have owned 14 Camerons during my day, starting with a Catalina back in 1995 through my last two, a Cameron American Classic VII and a Newport TeI3 that was refinished in copper plating with sound slot cut by geoputters. The latter was a gift from a friend. As of yesterday (with the blessing from my friend), I no longer own a Cameron putter as they are all sold now.

To some extent, cost of a putter does not inhibit me. Would I pay $1,500 + for a Cameron from the Studio or a Tour putter? Absolutely not! Could I spend $400-$500 for a putter of outstanding quality? Yes (only if I sell other putters to fund it). Because of Cameron putters I have discovered other makers of fine milled putters so my fanatical interest in Cameron putters has waned (long story and end of that story). I am a huge supporter of David Mills and Byron Morgan, two smaller makers of fine milled putters. While Cameron putters may have been the pinnacle of milled putters at one time (although TP Mills had been milling putters since the 60s), he certainly is not the pinnacle now, IMO. Byron Morgan has been milling putters since the early 90s or late 80s. So much for the brief (and I mean brief) history lesson.

My point is that many people have discovered offerings other than Cameron that appear to provide a great value, in some cases, a better value. Make no mistake, Cameron still makes terrific putters (and some not so terrific). I am certain Scotty can still mill a putter himself that would truly be tremendous. That said, Cameron has built a large following of very loyal fans and collectors, as evident with the many threads that exhibit the enthusiasm from some. I understand this as I was once in the Cameron camp, hook-line-and sinker. For those who love Cameron putters, that is terrific. For those who do not like Cameron putters, that is a matter of personal opinion. For me, I appreciate my former collection as those putters taught me much. There are some Cameron putters that I regret selling but what is done is done. No looking back. As for me, I cannot see myself owning another Cameron putter again unless I stumble on one that is absurdly under priced. There are too many other putter makers that offer tremendous products. As mentioned earlier, David Mills and Byron Morgan are two. Throw in Bobby Grace, Bob Bettinardi (who milled Cameron putters between 1993 and 1998), George Palombi, C&L, Machine, Piretti, Tom Slighter, Tad Moore, and others. There are too many other choices for me to limit myself to only own Cameron putters.

They are like the slutty cheerleader that you nailed in high school just to say that you nailed a cheerleader. Then you realize that her performance isn't any better than that hot girl next door that you wanted to have, but felt like you were less of a man if you didn't get with the cheerleader.

Eventually, you'll find an unknown girl that's a nympho. You'll be rollin' them in the hole over and over and live happily ever after.

We are talking about putters, right?

Have you ever heard of "MAGIC"?

Cameron putters are MAGIC! And people who use them are WIZARDS!

235 Tour Players can't be wrong! :p

Wizards? Magic? Wow. I know some guys who putt with $2,000 CT putters and they can't break 95 and routinely have 35 or more putts per round.

A tour pro could putt with a $5 putter from Wal Mart and putt well. Padraig Harrington works "magic" with his 2-ball. Zach Johnson (a Titleist staffer) works "magic" with his SeeMore, especially at the Masters in 2007. Etc, etc, etc.

I'm not bashing SC putters, but I hardly think ANY putter is going to make a bad putting stroke that much better.

I have only ever owned one and it is my current gamer. I am please to say that I am making more birdies since purchasing this putter although I have also slightly changed my set up. I didnt purchase this just for the Cameron name, it was the putter shape, the milling, balance, and the fact that I drained almost every putt in testing. The putter IMO, like many of the other items in your bag is one that give you confindence, but in my case also has to look nice to me.

But in saying that, it has also made me more aware of the other stunning options out there. Although I am in no particular rush, I would like a custom C&L to mark the birth of my son, but I also want a Whitlam Devon and a Mizuno Bettinardi C-02H or C-03H as well. I do not want to get a massive collections, the four will be enough :D

Magic = Jing? Yes? :D

In seriousness, I wonder if the Magic fairy dust dries up how loyal the touring pros will be. Zach Johnson and Steve Stricker are two examples of Titleist staffers that do not game a Cameron, even with the pay for play they could get. I do not take the tour putter count too seriously because there is Acushnet money tied to the Camerons played. If there were no pay for play and the tour pros had to put up their own money for the equipment they play things would be rather interesting.

That said, Cameron putters are very good putters of very good quality. Anyone who buys one will be buying a great putter. However, if anyone thinks a great putter will solve their putter woes they had better think twice. I know because I am in this trap.
