Are you on tour yet? If not, maybe a good teacher could really help you out. Find someone you can discuss your opinions with moreso than be taught for your first few lessons so you can feel out what you want to get out of it.

Where abouts in Canada are you? Im in the lower mainland of BC and its even cold and wet to be playing right now, dont know where else its too clear to start playing yet.

I've had lesions before, but I'm just not getting that much anymore out of it, actually thats making me think, good point, thanks.

I live in Ontario(southern), alot of driving ranges and a few courses are open (though all are colourless) we have had a very early season(thanks global warming).

Having an extra set of eyes to watch your swing is great. I think that a checkup is good to have once in a while by someone who is knowledgeable and knows your swing well.

My dad helps alot with an extra set of eyes for my swing, and I always check my set-up in the mirror. its just the knowledgeable thing gets to me, I was going to a highly ranked teacher in canada and all he was saying was things I knew before. I guess its just applying things to the swing.

You should ask Tiger, he has a teacher.

You should also ask Tiger what Hank Haney charges him, and then decide if you can afford to have a teacher.

Teachers are great, but paying for it is not. They feel....limitly obligated. What I mean is, since your paying them, they will do as much as they can to help you, but when you hit a plateau, and you will plateau, they'll say it's up to you to progress to the next level.

They know you won't get there because if you did get there, they wouldn't be still "teaching" you. You would have moved on to a teacher that is above their paygrade.

Get a camera. Watch it and then have a teacher watch it and give you a quick tip.

I think that having a swing coach is a great idea if you really plan on taking golf seriously. It is very difficult to know how the swing is supposed to feel if you dont know initially. The old saying Feel and real is different is so true. I also agree with the camera, but once you get pretty good the camera gets quite difficult to analyze if you dont have a coach that is very knowledgeable on the swing, because even small details can throw off a balls flight. There are cons to having coaches too, they are quite pricy once you get to some accomplished instructors. 200 to 300 dollars an hour can be a common thing.

My method of success, which i highly advise anyone who is serious about their golf.

If you feel like you have enough knowledge of golf to be able to recognize a mistake in someones golf swing when seeing it, purchase a video camera with decent quality, get someone to film you and analyze yourself.

Pick a player who's swing is technically sound (I don't advise Sergio or swings of the like - I picked adam scott for example), find a good video of his/her swing and take a real good look at the swing. Then compare where the differences are between yours and his, and try to feel the changes (get the feeling on camera too to make sure you're feeling the right thing).

It worked for me, and i'm a +3. You don't really need a teacher. Save the money and spend it on new equipment instead :D.

Good Luck, hope I helped

I think to succeed on any level in today's game you need a teacher.

I don't know the number but if I had to guess I would say every player who holds a PGA Tour card has a teacher, and most of the Nationwide guys have teachers, not to mention every NCAA College player has a coach who is basically a teacher.

If you want to make it to that next level your going to need help on the way there, there is a reason Tiger, Phil, etc. are so good, because they work with people who understand their swing, their game and what they want to accomplish, they work towards their strengths.

I think a teacher is much more important then a 2009 driver or a new set of irons...
