Can golf shoes shrink?

I have a pair of Footjoy Dryjoys that are at lease 3 years old and when I played yesterday they seemed to have shrunk. They were tight and actually hurt, especially around my toes. I've noticed it a couple of times but they seem to loosen up after walking, but this time they never felt good...(This is the first time I've worn them in a few months since I live in the midwest). Is it possible that they could have shrunk? If so is there anything I can put on them to loosen them up?

Not sure if you have them, but sounds like no: a good pair of shoe trees. Get a pair of cedar shoe trees because they'll soak up the moisture and keep the funk out along with keeping the shoes stretched out and maintaining their form. I've got a pair in every single one of my pairs and they can't be beat!

High quality shoe leather will shrink/mishape if you let them dry out without a shoe tree.

I have a few pairs of high quality dress shoes that state right on the box, do not wear them more than 1 day in a row and alternate days you wear them. They also recommend using shoe trees.

A full leather upper like the DRY JOYS has should not shrink. Typically leather shoes will stretch as the foot expands in the shoe. A shoe with a synthetic upper like mesh or synthetic leather can shrink if they get wet. If they were to shrink it would only occur in the shoes upper, where the laces are, but they will never shrink width/length wise.

Joe Peel is right, your feet do get bigger as you age or gain weight and seeing as how you haven't worn them within the last few months that could be your problem.

Allot of shoe stores actually specialize in stretching shoes with leather uppers, but if the upper on you shoe is white expect it to come back a little discolored.

I was once told by a very knowledgeable bootfitter at REI that when walked in a lot shoes will generally increase in width but shrink heel to toe.
