Need advice to stay positive

Mentally confused right now.

I have a college tournament tomorrow and lately in tournaments have lost my groove early on and have not been able to get it back. I then lose my mental side and just am ready to leave the course.

I would like some advice about staying positive during the round and also getting your groove back once you have lost it. I just have trouble staying confident and positive right now.

I'm sure you have heard this over and over but it's true " you MUST stay in the moment" when your out there. Don't take it so serious. Give yourself that 1 min while going through your preshot routine to think. Other than that enjoy being out there. It's the best time of your life. Play golf for fun and winning will follow.

When I get like that I try and slow down a bit and remember that I'm not Russian, I'm American. Americans in general can be lazy. It helps me to catch my breath and remember that it's just a game, and that I'm playing the game the game isn't playing me.

In my tournament last weekend I was playing a new course. The front 9 I shot 10 over the greens were ice and the course was so elevated I was teeing off with a 7 iron on par 4's. I was so mad by the back 9 I just stopped trying so damn hard and just trusted my game and what I practice the back 9 I made a come back with 5 pars and 4 straight birdies to finish 6 over on a new course that was not set up for my style of golf.

If you can focus on the process (routine, course management) on every shot and forget about the score you will be amazed at the results. Make your goal to go through the process on every shot and if you can do that then you have had a great round. Going through the process gets you focusing on things other than the negatives, swing thoughts and all the other garbage that can mess up your game. As Rotella says, be excited that you have the opportunity to play great!! Good luck and stay calm...learn a slow breathing technique when your head starts spinning and you sense you're tensing up whether with nerves or anger. Peace
