R7 425 TP review

Article I thought I'd share from international blog
You see the commercials, you see the headlines, but the question is "Is this club really worth it?" Well that question can only be answered by you, but I am here to help. This will give you some insight into the R7 425 TP. One of the newest and supposedly greatest clubs to hit the market thus far.

Appearance -

This club has a pear shape much like all of the other clubs in Taylor Made's lineup as of recently; however this club features a slightly more rounded shape than various other drivers in the current lineup. The driver though not large by today's standards is still relatively big, but the deep black color helps hide the size quite well. This is a nice deep faced driver with strikingly unmistakable whit score lines on the perimeter of the face. If you are a traditionalist but like todays modern technology this club definitely will fit the eye.

Sound -

This driver has a great solid sound unlike the hollow sound many complain of in today's larger headed drivers. One thing this reviewer found interesting was the vast difference in sound when changing the weights. With the heavier of the weights moved forward the sound was noticeably louder and higher pitched then with the heavier weights moved to the rear positions. With the weights moved forward the sound was very similar to the callaway x460 tour.

Feel -

This driver has a hot and lively feeling face, inspiring confidence and leading to much longer drives than ever imagined. This driver though very technologically advanced, and possesing a very thin face still has the solid feel that many golfers are looking for in a driver. The shaft, a key component to any club, added to the solid feel of this club by giving it a nice firm feel with a very solid tip. The shaft in an X flex felt stiff but not overly boardy. The weight overall of this club is ideal, both in that it is not a very light golf club, but with the extreme adjustability of this club it can be made light or heavy.

*I know what your thinking, and YES the movement of the weight around the clubhead really does influence the ballflight.

Distance -

This driver when fitted right is one of the longest drivers on today's market. Compared to this reviewers prior R5 TP it was approximately 15 yards longer because of the ideal launch characteristices leading to equal carry distance and a greater amount of roll. This is definitely a long driver due to its high quality shaft and incredible ballspeeds. You will not be outdriven with this driver in your hands.

Workability -

This is by far one of the most workable drivers on the market today. It features a somewhat smaller head than most of the drivers being debuted by the major manufacturers of today. The clubs lower MOI and square face, combined with a controlled shaft allow the player to work the ball in many subtle ways, whereas, with some of the larger drivers of today it is hard to hit those small fades or small draws, etc.

Forgiveness -

This is a relatively forgiving driver given the size, it is one of the smallest new drivers debuted by any major manufacturer. This is by far not the most forgiving, so if that is your main concern in a driver, be wary of purchasing this club. Mishits do not lose much energy but are more offline than the R5 TP it was compared to.

This club, a notable member of the TP line, is one of their best drivers out. A true player's driver this provides great workability, distance, feel, and forgiveness. If you want a good all around driver and are not looking to play one of the modern monstrous drivers, this is definitely a driver to consider. So go out, get to a range near you and give this thing a shot. You won't regret it.

P.S. I know reviews have been posted all over but this was a review written for an international blog outside of the U.S. and I just thought since I spent the time I'd share it with the wrx community.

Thanks,

Adam

very good review and I agree 110 percent, I have sold all of my drivers, including a tour HiBore, this thing is unbeatable in terms of distance and feel, it stinks there will be no tour 460's or even a TP model, but I prefer the under 460cc heads

Come on now, this is TaylorMade we're talking about, of course there's going to be a Tour and TP model. :)

Thanks for the review Adam. I have hit the non TP R7 460 and the R7 425 and can say they are very good heads. The 460 felt simular but more spin. All around great heads and I look forward to trying the TP to see how it will play with the ROmbax shafts in them.

Great review.

The Pics are of the 460cc and the 425cc R7 heads. The top pic has the 460cc on top, and the bottom pic has the 460cc on the left...

Here's a review I posted several days ago...

Holy Smokes, Batman!

Got to hit one on a launch monitor yesterday and ordered the TP 8.5* w/ the 75 X Rombax after 5 swings.

Driver I have been playing with is a 7.5* R510 TP w/ ZCOM MW74 X and it is tipped 1/2".

Numbers with the 510 TP:

Swing speed: 126

Ball speed: 178

RPMs: 3900

Ball height at apex: 74 yds

Carry: 298 yds

Numbers with the 425 TP:

Swing Speed: 126

Ball Speed: 186

RPMs: 3600

Ball height at apex: 55 yds.

Carry: 304 yds

Folks, this is one unbelievable golf club. I've been playing golf for 35 years and haven't been wowed by many golf clubs, but TaylorMade has set the standard with this one.

Looks:

The head is a little longer from heel to toe than my 510, but I love the look. It gives a distinct feel of confidence that you can just get up an hammer it.

Sound:

Sounds much like my 510. No tinny "twanck" that you get with some larger heads. Just a good solid "thwack" like you get with the 510.

Feel:

Possibly the most solid driver that I've ever hit. With the 510, if you catch it just a little off center, the feedback is immediate and sometimes quite harsh. An off-center hit with the 425 TP still gave immediate feedback, but wasn't nearly as harsh, and I only lost about 8 yds. on average and the ball still stayed within 10-12 yds. of my target line.

I'm convinced that the shaft is the difference maker here. The new Re*Ax w/ Rombax tech. is a winner for TM. All the Fujikura shafts that I have ever hit felt somewhat "soft" to me. The Rombax didn't feel soft at all. In fact, it felt as if it might play a little stiffer than advertised flex. I loved it. I could get up and really try to stomp on it without any fear of the shaft not being able to keep up.

I said it earlier and I'll say it again, TM has once again set the standard for drivers with this one.
