I think the thing we all can take away from topics like this is the following:

I'm sure some people call bull on some of the numbers, you may or may not, they all could be 100% true, they all could be 100% inflated, doesn't matter.

What matters is no matter how far you hit it, if you can't score from 125 and in does it really matter?

I know it's something I've learned as I got older, distance doesn't really matter once you reach a point, also at that point you realize people stop becoming impressed with distance and care about how your scoring, putting, chipping, etc.

Unless of course your a long driver your probably not impressing too many people hitting it 300 yards if you can't do much else.

Again not saying any of these numbers are false, I'm just saying people should stop with the "No way your numbers are better then Tour Pro's" (hasn't happened yet in this thread which is good but I'm sure it's coming).

As a teacher of the game I would offer the following advice to those guys who are 14-18 and hitting it 280+.

Please do something I didn't...work HARD on your short game, hard work REALLY does pay off, you will learn that having a 280 yard driver is perfect, having a short game where you know you can get up and down 9/10 times is probably your best weapon against others. You can't imo put enough practice in on the putting and chipping green.

Oh and for the record:

all approx not exact...

Driver: 280

3 wood: 260

5 wood: 240

3 Iron: 230

4 Iron: 220

5 Iron: 205

6 Iron: 190

7 Iron: 175

8 Iron: 165

9 Iron: 155

PW: 145/125 (I play a weird little 1/2ish shot instead of carrying a gap wedge)

54: 110

58: 95 (rarely hit this club for a full shot...usually just fiddle with the 54 for anything over 80 yards)

How do you guys hit it so far?

I mean my short irons are a little bit off...

but my driver is like 40-60 yards off with the people within my short iron distance..

Reasons why people hit it so far:

1. They are lying.

2. They are older and bigger than you.

3. They have a fundamentally sound swing that creates lots of lag on the downswing.

4. They are lying.

2 factors nobody is mentioning:

Location - if your live where it's high or dry you likely get 10 more yards per club

Iron lofts - manufacturers are playing the loft game again, 46* PW for example (Ping and Callaway are notorious...)

For the record:

Driver - 285

3W - 260

5W -240

3i - 205

4i - 190

5i - 180

6i - 170

7i - 160

8i - 150

9i - 140

PW - 120

56* - 100

I think my favorite part of all these threads is the guys with random numbers like 177 or 163, etc. The only possible way you would know that those clubs carry exactly that far would be by using a range finder or getting on TrackMan and hitting 10 balls with every iron to figure out average carry. I also think a lot of people overestimate distance such as the 112 ss with 305 yards as the driver. No possible way to hit it 305 at 112 swing speed unless its wind or altitude aided. You cannot even crack 170 ball speed with perfect smash at that speed. I've fit and seen many fittings and I can count on my hand the number of guys that can fly it 300 yards. I mean today I had 197 yards to a back pin with a front trap sitting down in the rough, I hit 6 iron onto the back fringe probably flew 200 yards in the air but I thought it was a flier lie...doesn't mean I hit my 6 iron 200 yards.

You've got to love it when a 14yo hits it as far as your average tour player lol. I think as people get older their ability to lie gets better, you might be able to get away with 10-15yds per club but taking your actual distances and jacking 50yds on to them all is a bit of a stretch. He will learn....... Either that of he is 128lbs of pure muscle hahahahahahaha
