Categorically ruling out eBay maybe simple, but would also take you out of a convenient and easy way to compare sellers. Don't forget eBay provides a buyer rating system which individual retail sites do not. There's now also a buyer protection system. And it's interesting to note that all of the major retailers that sell on Golf WXR also sell on eBay.

Again, a little common sense and quick investigation go along way to determining seller reliability.

The name says it all. I was burned once on eBay. NEVER again. If it ain't from a pro shop, a WRX-er, or authorized dealer... just say no!!

As some of you may know, I have a semi-longstanding interest in websites that offer deals on golf equipment that are too good to be true. Some of my personal favorites are

    "golfinstock.com"

    "ebayoyo.com"

    "overstockseller.com"

    "maxdiscountgolf.com"

    "wowogolf.com"

    Note Recent Additions (6-10-09)

    "askforgolf.com"http://www.easybuygolf.com/Ping-G15-Irons-Set_199.html

"dhgate.com" (This one seems particularly interesting. Sort of a Wal-mart for "interesting" merchandise)

    More additions (8-27-09)

    "easybuygolf.com"

These sites are very closely related. Read the FAQ sections of each and you can see that they are written by the same person(s). Read through the text on each of these sites, and you will note very, very awkward phrasing, misspellings, and other markers that indicate that the text was written my someone who is not a native English speaker.

It seems that these wonderful business people have discovered GolfWRX. I have seen recent posts that indicate to me that there is a more or less concerted attempt by person or persons unknown (very Jack Webbish, don't you think) to get the names of these sites out to the WRX community in some legitimatizing form. You can make of them what you will. I know how I would take them - with a level of righteous indignation that I usually reserve for spiders, gophers, and other noxious varmits.

Please help in this effort. If you know of other sites that sell or promote golf equipment of dubious heritage, let your fellow WRXers know who they are. I will try to keep this list updated, with your help. Please help keep this business model in the perspective it deserves.

    Heres a funny one: http://www.golfforsales.com/titleist-cb-712-irons-2012-39-p-p-583.html

I bought a fake set of r9 irons off craigslist and was lucky enough to track the seller and threaten him to give me my money back or else I would make his life ****. I only buy retail or from a mfg pre-owned site like Taylor made. Learned my lesson

Does anyone have any experience with "http://www.supplydiscountgolf.com"? Not everything is so cheap, but I found some like AP2, MB are under $400. they said it's cheap because their clubs are directly from the original factory which saves the cost.

    LOL - add this site.

Can we update the first post to mabye include the following. Here are a few tips if you find a site that is too good to be true.

Copy the website address and go to http://who.godaddy.com/ and type in the address in there. Once you submit it, there will return an address and who it is registered to. If it is registered to someone outside of the USA and they say they are shipping from the US, you should be cautious!

Look them up on the BBB Website Lookup- http://www.bbb.org/us/Find-Business-Reviews/ Search for them by domain name and city or state. If they don't come back with something legitimate or are not listed, please be cautious!

There are many other ways to prove a company's legitimacy, so be cautious and I am beating a dead horse here, but if it is too good to be true then it probably is.

Y'all can add golfforsales.com to the list. my buddy bought a scotty del mar putter from them. he was psyched, but at my first glance of the headcover it came with and the garbage color of the face insert on the putter i could tell it was a fake. I didn;t have the guts to tell him. but on a side note he did putt very well for the day. I'm a little worried because he ordered more stuff later that night. I swear his sticks are going to fall apart within a month. Shoottz!!!

They are pretty clever too. It is registered as being located in Mass., but domain was registered in China. Clever...but the language on that FAQ is awful.

found this one this morning. sorry if its already been added

Would we agree that even this is too cheap (keepin mind Australian dollar is similar to US at the moment) for a rocketballz fairway?

Also, the lack of shaft options and the fact that you can only choose 3 or 5 wood is a bit sus

Just wondering what everyone thought of cheapgolfbuy.com. Their prices seem to good to be true. A quick whois shows a registrant from the US. My buddy just ordered some clubs from them and I'm a little worried for him.

Looking at their horrible misspellings on the footer tells me they aren't legit and may be a Chinese knock off site. You can also look at the Scotty prices to get an indication...anyone knocking off close to 80% off retail for Camerons is not legit in my mind.

Yup, My buddy ordered a set of Titleist 712 AP2's and they turned out to be fakes. He has contacted his CC company for a refund. He is also returning the clubs to the original shipper in China. Do no buy from cheapgolfbuy.com. Too good to be true.

I'd like to help him report these guys to the correct authorities. Any steps of action we could take to get the ball rolling on these scumbags?

This might be on the thread already but here is the way i check wether or not a website is legit

    1) Try to find any phone number or adress on the site if not listed probably not a good sign

    2) Go to http://website.informer.com/ and type in the website address press search (sometimes it takes a few minutes for the results to come up)

-For example i just put in salegolfbuy, com from a recent post, under the whois report section it alerted me that it was a godaddy domain and provided me with a link to the godaddy lookup page (http://who.godaddy.c...prog_id=GoDaddy). copy paste that into address bar>go>type in text verification to the right>results

-On this page it provides me with this info

    Administrative Contact:

    moll, nancy [email protected]

    415 Glenalby Rd

    New york, New York 14025

    United States

    (716) 527-1258

    3) take the address and plug it into google maps... and no suprise this address doesnot exist within the zip code but it does send me to a residential suburb in a different town and zip in NY state

    4) a quick google search of the phone number lists it as a mobile phone in western NY, so hey why not give it a call and no suprise disconected

So you can now buy with confidence online with these easy steps

It is too good unless they operating out of a small mansion in the suberbs of gerogia.

    >phone number associated with the site actually matches the house though which is the most effort i have seen one of these fake websites put into covering there tracks.

    >Registered owner of the site is a made up name and cannot find any record of her in the state,

email address listed has no record so probably also fake.

    >a lot of other clues on the site such as only taking visa no pay pal, shipping via largely international shippers, poor english throughout
