Headphones for golf, Best Choice?

Recommended Posts

Anyone else PLAY with them on?
I PLAY while listening to music. I am looking for suggestions on the best type of headphones. I would really like a WIRELESS set. The pair I have now are bulky, though they work. And they make me keep my head still. Let me know what you'd suggest for a pair. There was a thread on this previously but, can't find it. :repost: If you can....put it in a reply. :Thanks:

My home course has banned the use of headphones, cell phones, blackberries etc. for liability reasons and I will be the first to admit that I voted in favor of this move.

When your on the course playing, you need to be aware of what is going on around you and when someone yells "fore", I would think it would be to your benefit to hear that call. After all, it is your head that is about to be hit.

I'll start wearing a helmet too :black eye:

I get what you're saying. I am still going to continue to do it though. My handicap has gone from a 2 to a +3 since I started listening while playing. NO JOKE

I'd vote for the NO CELL phones though, for others that I play with not to be or get distracted. Doesn't bother me....can't hear one go off

if anyone else wanted to know, perfect size, fits around the ear, and wireless

Anyone considering these needs to understand bluetooth doesn't work well outside in open space. You will have to have the phone/device very close to the headphones for them to work. BT works well indoors / anywhere with walls for the signal to bounce off of. However, something like a practice putting green or driving range requires a direct line of sight for a good signal, as there is nothing for it to bounce off of.

I have a motorokr S9-HD headset that is fantastic indoors, but is practically useless on the golf course. Just cuts out all the time as I can't keep my phone close enough to the device while swinging.

Sorry, but this is completely incorrect.

Bluetooth quality has little to do with being inside vs. outside.

If you are inside using bluetooth you can easily go from room to room, or outside without issue(as long as you are in range). The signal does not bounce off walls, it penetrates them. The ONLY issue with bluetooth is range. 32 feet is the max, where you will get drops and pauses. To maintain clear signal it would need to be 10 feet or less. Perhaps in your pocket. Its an RF signal, which has nothing to do with line of sight.

Also, be sure your phone/mp3 player supports the A2DP bluetooth profile before you buy a BT capable headset.

BTW, the Jaybird bluetooth set looks awesome.

Just an FYI, now that OS 3.0 has been released for the iPhone, the jaybird is awesome because you can now use any bluetooth device with the iphone. Of course, you can still use the little bluetooth connector that usually comes with any bluetooth headphone device but with the new OS 3.0 for iPhone, this is no longer the case.

Looked these up on Amazon. The ratings were not very good (3 stars with 57 reviews). Not saying they're not good. Just saying...

  • 5 years later...

I rencently bought a pair of senbowe Bluetooth headphones on Amazon for $25 but I'm not super impressed with them. The wire that connects the earbuds can get caught on your shirt pretty easily. Good for chipping and putting but not much else.

I've heard good things about the sol republic wireless earbuds from my friends who use them while running - anyone given these a shot on the golf course? I know TW recently signed with them but I don't want to invest the $120 unless I hear some feedback from other golfers.

Oh and to the idiots saying it should be banned - part of the reason a lot of us wear headphones is so that we don't have to listen to your whining. You guys are probably the same people who complain about stuff that doesn't even matter - like the pro shop switching to plastic tees instead of wooden ones. I've also never come close to getting hit at my home course because it is well laid out and it's a men's only club where the average handicap is around 10.

Not a legit handi if you're listening to music as you're in violation of the rules of golf. No stipulated round may be played while using a device that plays music or drowns out noise. I'd say you're still a 2.

And I'd say your post is exactly why I wear Bluetooth phones by platonics (sic) on the course. BS from guys like you ruin a lot on this forum. Bluetooth headphones by Platonics (my answer to OP's question) are the only I can play golf around uptight people similar to you.

What is uptight about this post? Dude can wear headphones on the course if he wants to ... But he can't post the scores and call his handicap real. No different than if I decided I get a mulligan on every hole and then decided to post my scores. Rules are rules. You don't have to play by them ... But don't break them and then expect somebody to respect your scores.

Jay birds....

Folks, the OP was asking for advice on headphone... Not your opinion if they should be banned or allowed... I'm pretty sure he could care less that you want them banned..
[/quote]

They are banned ... The only reason it got brought up was because the OP told us how wearing them has lowered his handicap. Which is impossible, because you can't wear headphones for a round that counts toward your cap. And don't get me wrong, I wish you could. I'd like the option to block out distractions during competitive rounds.

But he's not asking you to respect his scores. He's posting his positive experience with listening to music and his golf game. Whether or not it's true, why should that affect you? Why call him out for a beat to death topic that isn't the subject of this thread? Nothing of your post helped the OP or others get answers to their questions.
