A rather windy Carnoustie. A tough course under calmer conditions already, it becomes a real monster when the wind get's up. Wow.

Bethpage Black...... and to help it play tougher, it was about 100*F and humid but my second toughest would have to be The "K" Club in Ireland.

The wind blows 35mph with the only landing areas being fescue!

Oakmont is the hardest setup I have ever played, but when I played it was soft from rain the night before and the wind was calm.

Kiawah Island Ocean course was the hardest based 20-25 mph north to south prevailing wind which makes the last 5 holes extremely difficult as they are dead into the wind.

Wolf Run in Indianapolis when it first opened. If you didn't hit it in the narrow fairways it was gone. Most penal course I have ever played. They have since made it a bit more friendly, so it isn't nearly as difficult, but it isn't easy by any stretch of the imagination.

1) Ocean Course at Kiawah on a windy day from the back tees is by far the hardest i've played. You have fun, hit good shots and you end up with a high score, simply unbelievable.

2) After that 2007 US Amateur Qualifying at The Capital City Club at Crabapple. Long at par 70, super hard fast greens, and the rough so tall that sometimes you could not see the ball even when addressing it.

a little course near orlando called diamondback. it has the smallest thinnest fairways of any course i have ever seen. i lost about a dozen balls in one round. i could only hit driver on about 3 holes due to the doglegs and narrow fairways. there is almost no rough just forest and wetlands lining each fairway

I haven't played too many Championship caliber courses from the tips, but the toughest I have is:

Shepherd's Hollow holes 10-27 in Clarkston, Mi. about 7300 yds.

76.1 rating and 144 slope. Cut through the forest, very few parallel fairways. Fairways are wide but there's no intermediate cut of rough and wild tee shots are lost.

Beautiful Arthur Hills course with nice elevation changes. Has a couple of goofy holes on 19-27 though.

World Top Ten Oakmont Country Club. Surprisingly, I handled the greens well with only one 3-putt.

We played from the back tees, and the hosting member shot 73 (I think he's a former club champion).

It was windy and I hit too many balls into a high-growing native grass that the caddies called "buckwheat".

Still, I was happy with how I played.

Bethpage Black from the tips, because of :

• sheer length,
  
• obstacles for every shot,
  
• how penalizing mistakes are,
  
• high bunker lips and high grass between bunkers,
  
• heavy rough around the greens.
  

I played like garbage at Crosswater.

Tot Hill Farm in Asheboro, NC and Tobacco Road in Sanford, NC. If you're in the area to play Pinehurst, they are both great places to stop by. Tot Hill takes #7 in Golf Digest's most difficult golf courses in America just behind Bethpage Black, with Tobacco Road at #10. The best part about Tot Hill is that you can usually play in the summer for less than $50, and only $30 if you are a senior, lady, junior, or active military.

The extent of my Wolf Creek experience is limited to Tiger Woods PGA golf, but it looks like an amazing track to play.

Tot Hill Farm and Tobacco Road is second. Both great courses and affordable just to far away...

lots of forced carries over 200 yards and lots of blind shots into greens. when you play it for the first time i guarantee it will be hard. the slope is like 140.

The Ridge at Back Brook from the tips. Greens rolling 13+, 7200+, gnarly rough. Any wind and the course becomes almost unplayable. 76 medalled US Open local 2 years ago, and the guy had Nationwide Tour status.

The Ocean Course from anywhere near the back tees with any wind...

7,823 yards w/140 slope.

By far the windiest course I've ever played too. When you're into the wind, it is ridiculous.

Wistling Straits!! The first time it was 65 and sunny and very hard. Second time it was 40* with 25-30 moh winds, just a beast!!!

Harbour Town. You can't imagine how tight those holes are til you're standing on the tee box.

Spyglass Hill, tipped out and in tournaments conditions. I played pretty well and still struggled. For anyone who has been to Spyglass, I HATE HATE HATE the fourth hole. The green is no more than 8 yards wide with fescue all around. Not exactly the biggest target from 150 or so.

NOTHING. Is harder than the ace club. Besides for just a few haha. But still! I've played Pine Hurst Pebble TPC. And the ACE clube were they play the Exelon tournament is just SO HARD. If you shoot in the 70's there your simply amazing. Gary player design. The walk from the 6th to the 7th tee is a mile. (thats the worst). Par 5 Tiger couldn't get there in two on the 2nd hole.

The Plantation Course at Kapalua. It can play pretty long and the greens are pretty tough to putt well on.

Southern Hills... already an a** kicker... then add the 110* heat index!

Panther Creek outside Jacksonville. Last time I played it course record was 73 from the tips. Ocean course and Tobacco Road were tough as well.

These courses are hard the first time you play them but, really they are very easy once you know where to hit the ball. Neither course is very long but, they both are 2 of my favorite courses I have ever played.
