Have you tried Power Points Advanced Lead Tape Weighting System ?

I seriously doubt that the 10 gram weights could be applied to any anser-style putter, and even if you stuck a couple 6 grammers on the bottom, it looks like they bubble out way too far and would definitely affect playability. Nice concept, I guess--but considering the grief Ping gets for the allignment mark it uses I'm thinking Power Points won't be replacing lead tape any time soon.

I haven't tried this product.

However, I've tried stuff like this before. They just don't stick for long. There's nothing more frustrating than constantly losing swing weight items.

In fact I got so fed up with a similar product I finally epoxied it into place on my driver. I like the feel, but you may have to get creative to get it on for good.

Stick with high density lead tape.

TMfan--you seem all smart and stuff (not being facetious here, but for real!), how much lead tape (gram wise) could I reasonably use on a Ping Anser 4 (shaft-over hosel)? I cut it down to 33" and I'll be damned if it ain't in the high-B, low-C range--way too light at any rate. I'm thinking trial and error might be in order, but I'm hoping I can avoid having a mass of lead tape wrapped lollipop-style at the end of a stick! :)

It's going to be tough. The best place I think for putters, especially Anser style is the sole. Use a heat gun on low or hair dryer on high to make the lead tape malleable. Then you should be able to add quite a bit to the sole very smoothly using a pencil to get in any cracks and crevises. I've seen some very good jobs where people were able to add 2-3 layers of lead tape to the sole of their putter and it looks seamless (no bumps or ridges to get caught on the ground, looks just as smooth as the sole before).

Take your time and get as much on the sole as smoothly as you can. That way it isn't there at address and you can add quite a bit more weight than simply adding it to the cavity.

Another option is a heavy putter shaft like the "Tour Concept" putter shaft from golfsmith. That will help you pick up some serious swing weight points.

Hope that helps.

golfernut, do you know the swingweight on your newport and what the overall weight of your putter is now? Also, one thing that has always bugged me about the sugar fix . . . why do we (Americans) need to put sugar on everything? :cheesy: Wait a sec, that wasn't it. . . what is it about sugar that is better than sand, or even tungsten powder? I'm thinking that if the least bit of moisture were to get in, or even if the putter was exposed to heat (say 100+ degree temperature in the hot sun as is likely to happen) that the sugar will become syrup. Educate me please. :)
