Yes, they do chew balls and that is why I got rid of them. Don't have the ball contract like the pros. Switched to the Ping Tours and I'm very happy with them.

Just my thoughts on this

I know a lot of people say spin milled vokey, or mac daddy groves, but honestly, the wedge that will spin your shots the most is the one with the least amount of bounce and a good shallow swing on your part. Cleveland usually offers wedges with very little bounce.

Groves are important, but if you can't pick the ball clean you aren't going to get much spin on it anyway, even with your Spin milled or special grooves. Even if you had super duper groves, if the leading edge can't pinch the ball, the ball is not going to see much (or any) of the grooves

Thanks, Scott

Just a question, why worry about spinning the ball, how about drop hop and stop. Most players are leaving the ball short of the hole anyway and any ball spinning away from the hole is making the game harder.

Personally I like a combo that I can control and I can hop and stop, this way I can land short of the hole one hop it and stop next to the hole. This takes away the back of the green.

Now as for spin, different wedges spin differently for different types of shots. IE: The Cleveland CG10's spin more than any other wedges for full shots, (I saw a test done on the Iron Byron with all different types of wedges), The CG10 spun about 300 rpm more than any other wedge, and that is nothing when the average spinrate of a 52° wedge is in the 11,000 rpm range on a full shot. That is why whe youhit a wedge harder it goes higher not further. The Vokeys seem to spin more in half shots for me, but spin is also a function of your swing, attack angle and how you manipulate the face and your ball type.

Lastly all the top quality wedges of today have grooves that are right at the edge of the legal, depth, width and spacing.

Ball cover softness, deep grooves and sharp box edges are the primary factors in generating a lot of spin action. From the players perspective, a steep angle of attack, hand speed and wrist action thru impact, quiet frankly sweepers in my experience don't generate excessive spin beyond that of diggers.

I thought it was the RAC TP's, but I picked up a X-Tour MD 60* last week and there is no comparison. I hit a bunch of range balls over the weekend and was picking chunks out of the grooves after every shot. I put it in play today, and I was deadly from 100 in. The ability to control spin with this thing is incredible. Full swing to suck it back 15 feet or dead-arm it to put the breaks on instantly. Awesome!!!

I just just bought a vokey spin milled 60* with 4* of bounce and tried it out for the first time today. I previously used a vockey black nickle 60* with 4* of bounce. Honestly I dont yet see a big difference. Maybe a little more spin with the SM but I could use either wedge and be very happy. I consider my short wedge play around the green (30 yards and in) one my strongest abilities. I can dig out a huge high flopper or send one in low and stop it or send in a one hopper with roll. Either wedge so far does the job equally well. It may be all in my head but the SM does feel a fraction heavier. Could be my imagination though. I think the real test will be this summer when the greens are rock hard and nothing seems to stick. The finish as most know on the black nickle wears immediately while the tour chrome on my new SM shows no wear after one practice session.
