Ping I5's

I wanted to hear some discussion of the I5's and other ping irons. I recently bought a set of i5/g5 combos(g5-3&4;i5 5-pw) and continue to be amazed. This set of irons is so forgiving. I previously could not stand pings simply due to the looks (shape, finish, and lack of ferrules). But I began noticeing how loyal ping lovers were and how many different sets are still in play (from weekend warriors to the pros). Anyway after hitting friend's ISI's and I3's, I began to figure out why people liked these irons. While there are sexier sets of irons out there, I have been very pleased with these so far and can see myself playing with these for many years to come. It takes a little bit of the fun out of browsing at golf shops. Does anyone have similar feelings or experiences? Ping haters, please feel free to comment (politely).

I played Pings before Titleist, and appearance is the only thing that made me switch. Today I saw a friend's i3 blades, and observed them a little. The blades look much better than the O-size model, and if I ever got another set of Pings, it'd be something like the I5, i3+ blade, or S59.

Glad for your success, but I'm amazed by my 735's.

i use the Zing2s now but i used eye2s before them and now i am switching to the i5s. i love the feel and that bigger clubhead. it looks more solid at address. i am also an 18 handicap so i need something a little more forgiving but something thats still a quasi players club. i love the mizuno mp-60s and well but they really aren't that forgiving. and personally all the titleists either too unforgiving or feel like mush.

:) :ok: :bb: I traded my Tiltleist 735's for the Ping I-5's. I have always been a Titleist loyalist, and I love the look of the 695cb's, but proof is in the performance and I have never hit better irons. they are the best for my game. The Ping black nickek tour wedges also replaced my vokeys. Go with performance.

I totally agree. When I first started to play golf I was using eye 2's that were given to me, being a novice I traded for the new flashy club at the time. I wish I still had them! The new clubs were not that great and got the ISI when they came out. Played for a couple of years and improved alot. When the I saw the Hogan Apex Plus, I thougt wow those are nice, got them. Played for many years untill I didn't have time to practice and could hit them so well. Just got he I5's a few months ago and love them. As you can see that I have strayed away from PING over the years, but when it comes down to true performance for the 2-3 rounds per month that I get to play the PINGs are great. The new I5's are great, just the right size, little offset and they feel almost as soft as the hogan + that I got rid off.

They should be in the bag for years to come! ..?? I will not buy the next great new club!!

Not only do Ping's outperform other irons IMO, they also wear better and last longer. The sand-based courses down here in FL can do a number on forged irons (nicks and scratches). The new look of Ping irons are fine and their forgiveness is uncomparable. I, like others, plan on keeping my i5's for years to come.

stop the madness.........jk....this is one set that i am truely wanting to try when i get fitted next month for the mx23.......and who knows....maybe the i5 will be purchase instead of the 23.......we;ll see how they perform against each other......

holla!

I hit the MX-23s, I owned the MX-23s, and the MX-23s, sir, are no Ping i5.

jkg.

(wtih apologies to Lloyd Bentsten v. Dan Quayle)

Seriously, after owning both, if you want something indestructible, forgiving, performs and has a semi-compact head size, then seriously look at and demo the i5 outside- however, get them custom as to fit - length, lie, loft, shaft, Cushin, grip, swingweight, etc.

For example, I ordered mine in Z-Z65 softstepped once, +1/2 inch, Cushin, green lie, blue lie on PW, the new grip with an extra wrap on the lower hand and D3 Swingweight.

Besides, I think the 23s will be replaced this year - the resale on Pings will be better -- and isn't Discount Dans a sponsor here? Great pricing on Ping.

Just traded in my I5s for some 735s. The I5s had way too much offset and were too light IMO. Kicking myself for buying them in the first place.

i use a D2 swing weight, the i5s are just too head light for me, but i do really like the way they feel, i just want to hit a set with some nice shafts and a D2 swingweight, then maybe ill toss the blades into the closet. but for now C9-D0 is just a tad too light for my tastes, grew up playing titleist.

Then why not just order a set the way you want????? ordered mine from Discount Dan's with D2 swingweight. Seeme like a no brainer to me.

I switched from the 735cm stainless to the PING I5's. I5's are more forgiving and have a nicer feel to them. I have added a G5 driver and hybrids to my bag also. Best set of sticks I have owned so far.

Thanks for the compliments on my I5s. Ive had a lot of people asking about how I did them.

Its a very long process, especially if you dont have the proper tools and compounds.

First, I sanded off the rough cast. I then went through various stages of compounds and buffers while polishing them with a bench buffer. Sometimes you have to go back and resand and polish again. After a month or so the finsh gets a little dull, but all you need to do is put a quick buff on them, or you can wipe them down with Mothers polish. The Ping Tour Wedges have the same type of finish on them.

If you want them done, I can do them. It will take about a week though. PM me if you are interested.

Thanks, Troy

yea, i just dont want to dish out $770 for a new set right now, i can get them really cheap through my work, but i still love my blades. plus, i want to wait to see what REPLACES THE S59 :) i heard they are getting replaced soon
