Was in dicks sporting goods today and saw some r580 xds ive never seen before. They were R580xd 460s they had matching fairway woods as well. Looked very similar to a titleist 905 at the bottom so i thought they might be knock offs but the fairways were 300 bucks! Never seen these anywhere else not even on their web site. Were they just knock offs or is it an older version i just havent seen before????

There seems to be a lot of "Dick's exclusive stuff" with TM. First, they put a new hyperlite fujikara shaft in the r580 and r540xds. Then, they came out with a r580xd fairway that looks a little like a v-steel and a rescue dual. On ebay, a similar looking club appeared and it was a euro version of a v-steel. Now, at dicks there is a new driver. It isn't a new xd, but it is an update of the r5 dual. It is called the r5 XL and has neutrals and draws. It also has fairways. They have the hyperlite shaft. The driver was $249. These exclusive clubs are weird. Why does TM make these for Dick's and nowhere else?

I noticed that they had some Adams ladies irons that do not appear anywhere else.

Companies do this for dicks because I bet they sell more golf equipment than anywhere else. When they do this kinda stuff they can let dicks cut the price way down without watering down the market on their other premium clubs.

When I hit them I can tell they are real fujikuras. But I don't know what model it is.

granted that I am sure if a nationwide store like Dicks sells something that says fujikura, it is a "fujikura".

Now I've hit plenty of "fujikura" shafts and I can't say that if you blind folded me I'd be able to tell a fuji from a UST.

And what on earth do you mean by, "When I hit them I can tell they are real fujikuras."? Is a Vista Pro a real Fuji? I know a lot of people who might say not. But what does it even matter if it is a real fuji, I promise your buddies going to stop saying the shaft is a fake the second you start airmailing his tee ball.

There are a couple of larger retail golf chains in the US. Edwin Watts was the one of the original multi-store retailers. They now have multiple stores in about 30 metro areas, maybe 50 to 60 stores in all. Golf Galaxy has a limited number of superstores, as does Golfsmith.

Dick's Sporting Goods has over 600 retail outlets.

That very likely makes them a key distribution channel for TaylorMade. With that level of channel power, they may be able to work out favorable product arrangements that allow more margin for the retailer at a lower retail price. They're not WalMart, so it doesn't undercut the brand perception/value.

600 retail outlets? We only have like 250 stores (+/- a few)

The reason Dick's gets so much exclusive stuff is because we are TM's biggest customer. It is mind numbing how much money we spend with TM company wide.
