A little ACCRA Story...

DYMATCH Review inside
Well, as many people around here know I am a huge devoted fan of the Accra brand and Gawain and his crew at PGM. A couple of years ago is when I got turned on to the brand by an acquaintance, who after a short conversation said let me send you this shaft for your 3 wood. That shaft turned out to be a SE80* and it went into my old J33 3 Wood. After this I went out and got a SE80 and put it into a J33 5 wood. Unfortunately, both of these were tipped M5's and after trying to make them work for over a year I moved on from them, but in that time I had gotten an Accra XC75 installed into my HiBore XL Tour which was my gamer driver for almost 2 years.

Well we all know what happens when we are having swing issues - we can't blame the Swinger, we had to blame the clubs, so I said, I love this shaft, let's try it in a TourEdge Exotics head.... not the right head for me, so rather then put my XL Tour back together I sold the Exotics XC75 combo and by all indications the new owner is in LOVE with it...

I then went back and forth and decided to get a Protopype put into my XL TOUR - the biggest mistake I have ever made. The shaft and the driver's open face angle proved to be way too much for me as I couldn't hit it. I was short, right, pulled left, everything but what I needed a driver to be. Soon I had another driver head to the bay.. and this one hurt as I loved my HIBore.

This time I decide to go back to a head that I have had a ton of success with before the XL Tour - a Bridgestone J33R 460 and I had some conversation with Gawain about what I should do, as I knew that I needed to be back in an Accra product. He told me about the new dyMATCH line and how it played a little stiffer and a little less spin then the XC line... I was SOLD. I then went out and had a dyMATCH S2 75 M5 untipped installed into my driver and when I picked up my driver I was blown away by the look of the dyMATCH in the sunlight... pictures do not do this shaft justice.

The last two weeks I have played sparingly as the weather here is starting to turn here in the Northeast, but I have never ever had this much fun hitting a driver. Last night I played 9 holes after work in a good 20+ MPH NW Wind and temperatures in the high 40's along the water... it was chilly to say the least. Everything I threw at this driver whether it was in the wind or downwind stayed right on line with a slight right to left ball flight and DEEEEEEEEP. I had a couple that were well over 300+ - wind aided but more importantly they were in the fairway or at worst the 1st cut.

I never thought that the XC line could be improved upon, but ACCRA has hit this out of the ballpark with the dyMatch line. I am a believer and if it wasn't for the fact that my 4 wood is one of the best clubs in my bag, I would be looking at an ACCRA for that as well.

Gawain - when you told me I would love the dyMATCH I was skeptical - especially as you knew my love for the XC - but you have delivered and hopefully more people will realize how good this shaft really is...

I was reading about the dymatch and they sounded very interesting. How most PGA tour players don't have same driver, fairway wood shafts because of flex, weight, bend point issues and this program was designed to fix that. So once you find a driver shaft that dials you in exact - their fairway wood shaft in same model will in theory be same match for you. Nice.

Gawain is cool! Talked to him for a while at the Northern Trust Open. He gave a shaft to my buddy pga_apprentice to try. Wound up in my hands to try. The shaft felt ok. I played an Accra SE80 M5 about 5 years ago. I did a little write up on the Dymatch and the theory behind the product line. Basically they believe you don't need a stiffer shaft in your 3 wood or one with less torque. A miss hit in a FW wood puts less stress on the shaft than a miss hit on a driver. Therefore, you can play a weaker shaft, just add weight for control. The Accra guys believe you should not be playing the same shaft in your driver and FW but tipping the FW extra. They say you should play it untipped, less torque model if possible. Kinda like playing a whiteboard 73x 1/2" tipped in your driver and a 83x untipped blueboard in your FW. Basically. I love the paint job on the red tour model Dymatch's. Very cool sparkle red flakes in the paint.

I am surprised that you felt that the dyMATCH only felt OK... to me it is one of the smoothest products on the market. Obviously, that is why there are so many shaft manufacturers out there - but to me the Accra feels the best.

I have the Accra Dymatch S2 65 on my Ping G10 driver...
This was my 1st driver shaft upgrade ever and i have to say that I am glad i ended up with this shaft.

I tried a few different setups recently and found the Dymatch to really hold strong on mishits. My tendency when i miss with my driver is to hit it a bit thin thus hitting a lower shot. This shaft really seems to stay stable through impact.

I have the S2 in my Srixon driver. Really brought my spin down. My biggest problem with the stock shaft was into the wind where I was getting killed. With the S2 my performance into the wind is awesome with very little distance loss.
