J33R 420 Concerns

Picked one up on eBay WAY CHEAP but I'm worried about the loft. I usually play a 9.5 but this head happens to be a 10.5. I love the setup and look. No concerns about the performance (in the right loft)....so

Has anyone gone to a B'stone driver and gone up a degree in loft?

You guys who have played the 420 and moved to the 460, what difference did you notice?

I have a 10.5º 460. Love it. I think Bridgestone drivers play closer to their stated loft than other brands. For example, I also have a G5 9º and hit both on about the same trajectory. The J33 420 is supposed to spin less than the J33 460, so the added loft may actually be a good thing, depending on your usual launch angle/spin rates. The NV65 stiff felt awful (to me anyway) in the 460. Much happier with V2 75 stiff in there now. Accras also seem to get favorable reviews in the B'stones. I've heard of people with 120 MPH SS playing the 10.5's in these heads, so I wouldn't worry about the extra loft. Just pair it with the right shaft and prepare to be amazed. :)

I went from a Titleist 983K with 9.5* with an Aldila NVS to a Bstone J33R with 10.5* with an Aldila NV. I love the increased loft. I always had problem with hitting my driver high enough when I needed to, but with the 10.5*, even with the lower launch NV, I can still get the ball up in the air.

The 420 is a lower lauching head than most. The 10.5 will probably be fine. The 460 is more forgiving and a little higher launching than the 420.

If you don't like it you could always sell me the head. :)

I agree, I've had both, currently using the 460 for more forgiveness, the J33R 420 in 10.5* will play more like a most 9.5* drivers out there IMO.

In that case make it a Vista Tour 60 S flex, with maybe 1/2" of tipping :)

My backup driver is a J33R 420cc, with a spined Aldila NV-Stiff. It's a VERY low launching head, so much so that I don't feel it's a good fit for me, unless I swap shafts, or do something else.

Also - it's a VERY neutrally setup and weighted head, and has the tendency to get inconsistent on me. I put a ton of lead tape on the heel to try to control it, which helps. While I love the feeling at impact, and distance of this club, I'm not sure it's a good one for my swing. I still like the head, but I"m glad it's a backup.
