Wedge discussion (Probably again)

Debating on whether to go from my current 3 wedge set-up (47, 54, 60) to a 4 wedge setup (47, 52, 56, 60). Of course the adding of a wedge would mean I would have to drop a lower lofted club, probably go from a 3-wood, 2-9 iron to a 4-wood, 3-9 iron set-up.

So what do you guys choose?

It was 4 (47, 52, 56, 60), but it's currently 3 (47, 52, 58 ... so far so good).

I'm typically a 4 wedge guy myself, unless the course I'm playing requires a lot of longer shots or tee shots that might require an additional fairway wood or hybrid.

I'm curious, and hopefully this goes hand and hand with how the thread was started, but of the guys who play 4 wedges, how many subscribe to the Pelz methods, the 3x4 system?

I play 3 wedges with a very large gap between them. I've never played a traditional wedge setup, I've always played what lofts fit the common yardages I have to allow me to hit more variety of shots from certain yardages.

3 wedges (47*, 58*, 63*)

I have two setups (each pretty standard, probably similar to rustyputterguy):

Long courses (or from the tips): 48, 54, 60

Short courses (or from the whites): 48, 52, 56, 60

I've read Pelz's short game bible a few times and it has really helped me. However, I'm not a strict 3x4 player (7:30, 9:00, 10:30). Instead, I tend to go a bit "analog" between about 8:00 and 10:00.

I play 4: 46, 51, 56, 64

With 4 wedges I only use 1 fairway wood, i just took out my 5 wood which i never liked hitting anyways.

I played 46, 56, and 60. The half swing of PW is not that hard for me, at least for now. :-)

I play three wedges (50.5, 56, 60) I don't have a need for a gap wedge because the pw in my set of eye 2's is 50.5*

I just added a 52* to bring me to a four wedge set-up.

The dogtracks I play on weekdays have these silly 120-125 par 3s. With my old set up I was always between clubs, but now my 52 is right on the money.

I have a 5w in the closet that I might put in the bag when I play some of the bigger courses around here.

4 wedges 48,52,56,60. I could probably live w/out the 60, but the other 3 are my scoring clubs.

3 wedge set up for me.

48* PW, 52* GW, 58* LW

3 wedge setup, but i've got a few of setups i will use:

47* pw, 52* gap/sand, and 58* sand/lob

47* pw, 53* gap/sand, and 58* sand/lob

47* pw, 53* gap/sand, and 60* sand/lob

47* pw, 54* gap/sand, and 60* lob

52*. 56* and 58*

With the exception of full shots, I can hit all 3 the same distances within 75 yards. The lie and what I want the ball to do determines which I hit.

47, 54, 60. works for the best, my old 47, 53, 56, 60 just wasn't worth is. the addition of a hybrid was well worth it.

I went from 4 wedges: 48*, 53*, 56*, 60* to 3 wedges: 48*, 54*, 60*....I added a hybrid which I found to be more useful
