Im in my second year of 5 years in college and just wondering what you guys think what i should do...I was to play college golf but my school doesnt have a golf team i shoot about mid 70's to mid 80's not much tournament experience. Should i try and go to a school with a team or just play different tournaments in the area.

thanks

Shouldn't your grades and your financial situation dictate that? If all is well? Have fun, switch schools, play golf and don't look back. :ok:

If you are in a 5 year program, you are probably up to your neck in academia. Most 5 year programs - engineering, accounting, etc. - are rigorous enough without golf. Your scores are good enough for small college golf but realistically, you would probably have to spend a great deal of time on the course instead of in class. No one can tell you and your parents what to do but think about the difference between "want to and can" very hard. Good luck.

i agree
and i am not sure of this as well. because i am a junior in highschool but my plan was to start at a UC school here in california to finish my undergraduate program then transfer to USC for the golf program and also to get my MBA. but for me i will also have to look if i can handle both and it is at the end up to you to decide that.

A few things to consider, although I am sure you have:

-will transferring screw with your credits and cause you to re-take a lot of classes? If so, are you willing to deal with that, and the financial cost of it?
-are you CERTAIN you can make the team at the new school? Have you spoken to the coach? If you are transferring to a school that is not as academically strong as yours, then it would really suck to transfer, spend the time and money and not make the team.
-does the school you are going to transfer to have your current program and is it a good program? I would not transfer to a (excuse the pun) sub-par school for golf. If the academics are comparable with your current school, then go for it.
-as a college athlete that was not going to go pro (played lacrosse at Michigan), keep in mind that you WILL be going pro in something other than athletics (like the NCAA commercials say) and keep that as priority #1. If you can make golf fit in, which would be sweet...then go for it!
-in a down economy, you may be able to find a local golf club to join (like for me, there is the TPC Michigan whose rates have DROPPED) and join and play tourneys there for cheaper than the total cost of changning schools...
i would love to go play and im pretty sure i could find some place to play...it would be mostly be that i would to have a coach and a teacher which would substantially help my game... and also im in a pretty school right now and dont want to down grade to some other
Like you said, your in a good school...
If i were you, unless you arent downgrading, i would not sacrifice education for low level college golf...
It you were on the verge of top d1 school, thatd be a different story

If you were good enough to play at a Div1 school and have a chance to go pro then by all means go for it. But if you're not regularly breaking par at tough courses, then no. Stick to your studies, build a nice career and then play all the golf you want. Work hard now so you can play later. Play now and you'll be working much harder later to catch up.

Miko,

Here is the reality of Collegiate golf. If you have limited tournament experience and no records of what your scores where and where you finished, no school is going to give you a chance. Even if you started now and took lessons played in alot of tournaments played really well with great scores you will have to essentially replace another teammate that is already on the team. That my friend is very, very , very, very, hard to do. If you think that may for the Septemer 2010, no chance most of the selections have already been made. So you are looking for 2011 and that leaves you only one year left.
