J33 vs. G5 vs. Launcher Comp

I am searching for a longer, more forgiving driver with a lower ballflight than I currently have. Right now I am hitting an R7 9.5* with the stock stiff shaft in it. I dont hit it bad, but I wouldnt mind something a little more forgiving with a lower ballflight and a few extra yards in it. I'm looking into the J33, G5, and Comp. Can anyone give a comparison of these drivers? Thanks for any input.

I have only hit the G5 and the J33. If you are looking for low ball flight the J33 is going to be the choice between the two. The G5 can be longer for some and is slightly more forgiving but in my experience plays almost 2* above loft. On the other hand, the J33 seems to be one of the few that plays true to loft and isnt significantly closed face. Definitely lower spin than most 460 drivers. With the stock NV shaft, it will also help.

Not to discourage anyone from getting a new driver, but how about a lower launching shaft in the R7?

Thanks for the input. I have tried switching the weights around and the ballflight doesnt really change. I thought about a reshaft, but since I'm not really in love with the r7 head I thought it might be worth it to try out a totally new driver and see what advantages I can get out of a 460 cc head. I am afraid the 9* G5 would launch even higher than my r7 and dont cant fathom hitting a 7.5*. I have heard the Comp is also a high spin, high launch driver and that is kind of what I am trying to avoid as well, but maybe an 8.5* with a low launch shaft (tipped possibly?) would produce. The B-stone sounds like it may be the ticket. Anyone have any thoughts/comments/comparisons between the r7 and the j33? If my 9.5* r7 is flying to high should I consider an 8.5* j33 or will the 9.5* launch lower then my 9.5* r7.

I have a 9.5 R7 with a Speeder 757 tourspec S/X flex. Just reshafted a 9.5 J33r 460 with a Purple Ice 85 Stiff flex. The J33r is 8-10 yards longer but I haven't dialed it in yet (the R7 w/ Speeder is deadly accurate). A few more range sessions and it will be in the bag to stay.

All things equal I think the J33r launched lower then the retail R7 (hence my choice of the Purple Ice). Its a hot head but do yourself a favor and dump the NV! My J33R came with an NV in stiff flex but it was a Senior frequency! But who knows you might get lucky.

The Purple Ice is an amazing shaft. Low torque and super feel! One word SMOOTH! Now I'm looking to put one in a Sonartec ss-07.

So now my J33R launches about as high as the R7 but with a much more penetrating flight. Just what I was looking for. Your shaft choice will make all the difference in the world. Good luck.

I have a 10.5 G5 and it plays just like any other 10.5 driver. dont let people tell you that it launches 2 degrees higher then everything else because i can hit mine 295-310

I agree. With my 10.5 deg G5 with NV-65 stiff, I launch it at 14.5 - 15 deg and can smoke it up to 300 yds at will. If you want your launch angle 2 deg lower, you're not setting yourself with optimal launch conditions and more likely to hit worm burners.
