I know my matches were always 9 holes, so there was little time to get things going or recover from a bad hole. Keep your head on straight and just have fun. You're only a kid once, and I have alot of nice memories from high school golf.

^^^ good advice, always remember to have fun. if there's one thing that i wish i could change about my freshman season this year would be that i wish i would have had more fun with it. i was stressed out over bad holes, even more stressed out over bad matches. if i shot in the 40's i would just beat myself to death mentally. i had three really good rounds ruined by finishing poorly, and i just got sooooo mad about it. anyway, just go out there and have fun with it, don't take it too seriously and try your hardest. that's my main goal for my season next year, just to enjoy it more.

post info about your game and maybe post your swing so we can recommend some clubs...

Im a JR in HS and our season ended a couple months ago. There are usually tryouts, the number of kids trying out depends on what area you live in (im guessing FL schools usually have more people tryout then where I live in MD). HS golf is interesting because it is not you against a golfer, its you against the course. Your score or how you play has nothing to do with your "opponent", its simply how you played that day. So if your opponent is shooting 4 under, dont worry about it and play your game. This is probably the biggest thing IMO, its you vs the course not you vs the other player.

Next thing is to try and relax and enjoy your time on the course, don't stress over a bad hole. The hardest lesson I have had to learn is that you can't get strokes back, you can only do what you can with the position you are in. My boss (at work) who is the head pro (this is a US Open qualifying course) says this: "Golf is simple, on the Tee your goal is to get it on the fairway, if you miss you have another chance. If on a shot you miss the green, you just have another chance, and if you miss a putt, you simply have another chance."

Keep those 2 things in mind, and remember to have fun! (thats why you play, right?)

^^^^ hey thanks ill deffinalty keep all this in mind( and i like in Oklahoma ) so who knows about the whole tryout thing i guess ill just have to find out.

Dude just go out there and have some fun. Like others have said you normally play 9 holes and for my school we had 5 9 hole "try outs" and the top 6 were Varsity, next 6 were JV and the rest got to practice and be on the team. Main thing tho is to not stress over bad shots. If you hit a bad shot let it go and move on because if you don't it can cause you to post some big numbers.

i agree i am also a junior but i started playing golf as a sophomore at my school and from my year in playing golf especially for someone starting out getting stressed about a hit is always bad and it will effect your other holes to come. As for clubs i started with a set of clubs from my local Big 5, they were a complete set of dunlops. but really any clubs that offer forgiveness is always good. I would suggest going with a simple set like that and getting them replaced and getting new more advanced clubs after your first season of golf.
