Not at all. Play what you prefer, whatever shaft that may be.
On sales alone, the DG would win by a country mile. The KBS and don't forget PX shafts are both popular OEM shafts as well these days.
From my own personal experience of Nippon shafts (Super Peenings Blue), I thought they were very good. Nippon probably make the lightest steel shafts too.
There is a shaft out there for everyone - obviously some will prefer one over another. I just prefer the DG. It's no big deal, regardless of polarized and narrow minded opinions of some people.
The best way is to find your preferred shaft is to try them out, rather than taking anyone's word for it.

All three shafts you mentioned (OP) are so different that it just depends what you need and what you like the feel of.

All three of those shafts come in different weights, launch characteristics, and feel.

If you haven't hit a Nippon then I would suggest you give them a try. The only problem is it's hard to find someone that offers all of their models. Esp. the "Peening" series that I believe are their best.

Actually, the reason I asked was I was wondering if I got the 'right shaft.' My clubs are shafted with the 950GH (hand-me-downs), and I haven't been playing long enough to know what a KBS or anything else like those feel lie.

Golftown, from what I've seen so far, are all company shafts, or True Temper.

I just went through a fitting with Mizuno and the Nippon 950GH was the shaft that they recommended for me. I loved the way it felt through the swing, the lighter weight and the higher ball flight as compared to the True Temper Dynamic Golds that are in my Mizuno irons and the Dynalite Golds I used to have in an old set of TaylorMade irons. Since its all about what is best for you, no one can tell you your Nippon shafts are good for you or not. But rest assured they are quality shafts, as good as any out there.

Have been playing the 950GH's in a set of Srixon irons this year, after comparing them favourably to Rifle Project X 5.0's. I found the lighter weight of the Nippon shaft gave me a longer, higher flight than the PX's. The PX's flight was straighter, lower and slightly shorter, not not by much with my swing. You have to play what works best for you. Suggest that you get your swing speed checked by your local Pro and get his advice on the right equipment.

I love my Nippon 1150’s, Very consistent, what I call a lively shaft with great feel, but also controlled trajectory mid/high, but penetrating.

Just started playing the 950 GH r flex as it replaced my project X 5.0. I like the feel MUCH better as the PX would beat me up a bit throughout a round. The Ball flight is a bit higher but not ballooning for me. I really like the weight and balance that I get with the Mizuno mp-58's and feel that I don't have to try to work my swing as much. Great shaft for me.

 • 4 weeks later...

Two summers ago I ordered my AP2s/Vokeys with the Project X Tour Flighted Rifles in 5.5. Based on their published specs they should have been fine, but turned out to be way too stiff for me, even felt strange just holding by the grip and manipulating the clubs without swinging. Had my irons and wedges reshafted with the Nippon 950GH in "R" and they have been great.

Interestingly, my local pro also had AP2s in 6.0s and after a fitting last winter had his AP2s reshafted with KBS shafts, a change he liked for many of the same reasons I did.

Plenty of people swear by Project X, and I'm not knocking them.

The Nippons are lighter and feel better to me. By all means check them out to see how they fit for you. They are a very high quality shaft, as are the other manufacturers you mentioned in the original post.
