Need help trying to fit Father In Law

I got my new father in law on the course 3 times this past year which now has got his golf juices flowing again and he wants a new driver. mom in law sends me an email to help her pick out a new driver for him. So its got me guessing what would work for him.

About him - he used to be a regular tee time guy on Sat - probably an average score of 95. He took off 3 years and now is back. He's 62ish and has a 2 plane swing - lots of arms in the takeway to straight up. He hits the ole banana drive - starts it left and it fades right. Maybe a slower than average swing. Starts it high - probably because of his upright swing?

Here is what I think - he needs a draw bias driver, probably a regular flex or maybe a senior one (I don't he would like a senior anything - plus he looks like Tony Soprano) - so I'm sticking with a regular flex.

I found a couple of drivers that might work - 07 Burner Draw and the Adams Speedline draw.

Am I way off - what do you think? What loft would you recommend? I found an awesome deal on a non draw version of the 07 Burner.

Would love to hear your thoughts. And yes I still want to be married to his daughter.
You say your NEW Father-in-law. I suggest you do not mention your OLD Fatrher-in-law to him especially if he played a better game......LOL
Could be his first marriage too.

I would give the Nike Dymo STR8 fit a look. It comes with a wrench that allows lots of face angle adjustment from 2* closed to 2* open and lots of places in between. That way once he figures out his slice problem, he can adjust the club to square or a little open. They can be had for $99 on ebay in regular flex.

+1 on the Dymo

Another thought would be a Ping G10 IF you keep in mind that most of the actual lofts are higher by 1.5-? higher than what's marked on the club AND that their stock shaft flex is softer than stated. Sooo, a 9 degree regular flex is more like a 10.5-11 degree senior flex. Add to that the fact they're stupid easy to hit and you don't even have to mess with the 'draw' version to get him going.

Like I said, just another thought. Good luck.

I vote to take him to a shop in the area and let him try some stuff out to see what works for him. And who cares what the label on the shaft says as far as flex ratings if it works? As long as it's not a pink shaft, I'm sure he'd be fine with hitting the ball straight.

Disclaimer, there is nothing wrong with a pink shaft, as I've owned several of the Aldila's. I'm just saying if he's too proud to swing a senior flex, I don't think he'd be the type to use a pink shaft.

I think you nailed it with the Burner 07 Draw, go with a 12 in whatever you get. The other club I would look at is a monster draw. Both are stupid straight. The monster is loud as hell which depending on your father in law's preferences could be a good or bad thing. Sadly other than the age factor I am very close to your father in laws description (hopefully a few yards longer) and I loved both these drivers, went with the Burner because of personal feel.

Might sound silly but if you can find them the Nicklaus Fastback, Drawback or ML3 Offset might be worth a look. A lot of older guys here and in South Africa are hitting them and they really seem to get the job done. They are a now old school 45 inch shaft as well that tends to help keep things under control
